Are they really needed on a classic ?? i have currently have 4 pot brembo, with 330mm discs.. bla bla...my brembo brakes are a bit smaller than what you now find on the later sti cars...these were bought on a group buy through s,net...

Hi
What sort of use does your car get, is it race, track or road.
Also, what sort of power is your car making?
Have you had any problems braking, brake fade, etc under hard use?
Bare in mind the newage STI's weight more than a classic so will require bigger brakes.

Bought some two piece discs from a well known supplier and have had nothing but problems with them. They still don't feel right. The calipers are now 5 years old, padged pads are new. Want a set of brakes that will be reliable for road and track use.
Have looked at AP and Stoptech. Just want someone to point me in the right direction.
Am going to Powerstation on Thursday so thought I would have a look at the brake combination they offer.

I have just price compared all the options and the specifacations of all the known kits (geek?) and I am going to go for the ksport 8 pot kit front and 6 pot rear. The price and spec is amazing and I read a review and the stopping times were reduced significantly. Mainly for looks but the standard brakes on my hawkeye with ferodo 2500 pads and grooved discs are not as good as my Seat Ibiza Cupra tdi! That had amazing brakes! 6 pot AP's I think with 330mm discs if I remember rightly.

Not always the case mate.
The brakes have to be proportioned correctly and be able to be modulated. If youre not getting them up to temp in order to become efficient then they will be useless.
Also depends what cwt is intending to use the car for. We wouldnt get away with using an F1 spec carbon/carbon setup on a trip to the shops. The porsche setup will also dictate the wheels sizes available and that means 18s or larger. Not ideal for a classic imo.
I think on a classic the 330mm AP setup with a good pad choice will be the best kit. Massive stopping power, light weight, great pad selection available and still able to fit under 17" rims.
Porsche setup will be great for a lardy newage but just not required on a classic.
