Question

Hi All,
I have done 12 months and 7000 miles and had 1 set of SO2's now need two more Very pleased with SO2 grip but the roads must be pretty rough around here to keep scrubbing off the tread.) and 14mpg so all within legal speed limits

Tyre dealer has 3 options (16") Avon ZZ1 £98 each all in
Good year F1 £110 all in
Brigstone SO2 £120 all in
What do you reckon on price and value for money????

Tony

Yep, The Avons do scooby's no Favours, I have F1's but they were MUCH cheaper (£300 fitted for 4 215/40/17). Lots of places have good deals on the F1's at the moment.

I've not owned S02's but I understand they offer slightly better dry grip but wear faster than the F1's. That and the price convinced me convinced me of F1's...

I wouldn't touch Avons on a Scooby.

I know this has been said already but

Do not go anywhere NEAR the ZZ1's.

I've had a set which came with my car. They are good in the dry, but in the wet they seriously lack grip.

Putting them on the back is dangerous, and on the front gives exceptionally large quantities of unwanted understeer, mainly in the wet though, when the road is most scary anyway.

They have lasted a fair while though, but they are slippy in the wet (compared to Toyo T1s that is)

Bathwick tyres - actually got them at the swindon branch... but I would imagine you could get them at the Bristol branch, I rang around half a dozen places and had quotes of between £302.92 and £560 for the same tyres... Crazy really.

I just put 4 tyres on mine - Toyos

Found South West Tyres in Clevedon the best (1/2 hour M5 South from Bristol).

£99 per tyre all in but had to pay £20 delivery charge as they had to get them in.

Number is 01275 335830

Yeah - you can't put the ZZ1's in the same category. Those tyres are dangerous. I can't believe tyre dealers and still recommending these tyres

F1s in 16 cost me 70 each all in - thats very expensive at 210 for two

Great tyres - in both wet and dry and now the S02s are phased out one of the best tyres to put on a scoob - Toyo Proxes T1-S being the other.

Just put on a set of four Toyo T1-S for a total price of £407 including VAT, fitting etc etc .... (215 40 17)

Damb fine set of tyres so I would not leave them off the shopping list !

Must add that most places wanted far more for the GY F1's ...

I went to the toyo website and got a list of their dealers from there. (It was generally a toss-up between them and F1's.)

I managed to get mine for £90 each all in (for 16"s).

Hope that helps.

If you can still get SO2s why not get those? they are the last of the good tyres for now. You can always get f1s next time but this is the end for the classic bridgestones. Having been out in pats car in the wet the other day, I simply cannot believe how much grip they have.

Hey T5NYW,
Same for me I need to new fronts, SO2's getting a bit low and aquaplaning.

Got quote from Oadby tyres in Leicester (01162719968) £82 each fitted for Toyo T1-S's

I'll be going soon, unless I find some cheaper elsewhere

John Wood tyres in Hereford quoted me £83 per tyre for Toyo T1-s in July. Eventually got P0's from KF but will be giving the Toyo's a try next month when these P0's give up. Not bad wear, got 15k so far with 2mm usable tread left.

Red face

Cheers I'd completely forgot about John he and he boy were realy quick in their Hotrods
I only had 3 mm left and going out the weekend so had to put some new ones on I have, get only 2.5k miles out of a pair of SO2's I reckon someones swoping tyres when I'm asleep (Lots of windy roads)and boost pulls in when the engines warm
The F1's were put on the back and its been like driving my old MK1 rs2000 big wing opposite lock every where But the SO2's were the same need 500miles or some big donuts to bed them in.

i know a lot of peope have said the zz1s are crap allready but i have to put my 2 penneworth in they are unbeleivably bad
when i got my scooby i had 17" wheels fitted with zz1s straight away so i thought the handling and roadholding on the car was well overated becouse i didnt know anybetter
then someone tolded me about how poor the tyres were so i took them back to where i bought them complained and they supplied me without charge some yoko avs`s and yeh the car became everything i expected it should have been
so if you havn`t got the message stick clear of them
i have toyo`s now and they are great to
