Default michelin ps2 Vs G.Year f1

Has anybody on here run on both michelin ps2's and goody f1's on the new age with 225/40-18??.

I'm currently running on the michelins and was going to try the goodyears next, but as i'm very happy with the michelins i can't decide what to do.I personally think the goody f1's will be better for the winter if we get snow,as the goody's have slanted tread grooves versus the mich's straight one's.

i know most peep's will say goodyear due to it been an established tyre but the mich is only just getting noticed as been an excellent tyre which is why i'm asking for anyone with hands on experience.

Can anyone help or do i have to be the tester and give my results on here??

Hi Mark,

have the Michelin fitted in the mentionned size, on my STi MY03.

Saturday I was on the Nürburgring (Nordschleife) an made 2 laps with them. Superb tyre Its the best street tyre I've ever had.
The GY is also a good tyre but I rate the Mich higher.

what would you say are the pro's and con's of each tyre or would you say that the michelins better in every aspect?

i would imagine personally that the michelins would have better grip in the dry, better steering responsiveness and better wear and the goody's just maybe better in colder temps and heavy rain due to the softer compound and being directional.

would you agree with this??

Tested here in 2004, along with the Bridgestone RE050A:

Looks like the PS2 wins, but not really much in it. Both tyres have probably had minor changes since then.

Great find, thanks for that.

I would not say that there is not much in it though, the PS2 is 0.42 seconds quicker on a half minute dry lap - that translates to about 8 seconds per Nurburgring lap - which is a lot IMO, for comparably priced tyres. And it is still quicker than the Potenza in the wet too.

I know what I will be getting next

Michelin Pilot Sport 2 (Extra Load) for me faultless drive, quiet, comfortable and grippy as ****.

Softer sidewall on the goody f1's put me off, but they seem to be a great tyre.

For mine, 235/40-18, the GSD3 is 104 quid and the PS2 is 154 quid (mytyres prices). That swung it back to the GSD3 for me.

i've recently gone from toyo t1-s's to GSD3's. The toyos were pants in comparison - i'm really impressed with the GY's . While i was looing around i read about tyre splits on the GY's - as long as you get the 92y rating you won't have any problems

The PS2 is for me the best street-tyre I've had on my Sti. Compared to BS or DUNLOP, the PS2 offers higher levels of grip in both, dry and wet.

I cannot say if the PS2 is better than the GY, because I had the GY only on my old Legacy. There the tyre was 1A.

Heard sveral times that the GY has softer sidewalls, which led me to the PS2.

The PS2 is expensive but it is worth it.

Default Goodyear F1

I've had GY F1's for 8 months and found them to be excellent , far better than the bridgestone potenza I had previously . The only comment I would make about the GY is they are a softer tyre so are liable not to protect your rim of wheel if your unlucky enough to get to close to a kerb . I hear TOYO's are also very good . ( MY 05 wrx)

No high performance summer tyre is going to be any use in the winter and if there's snow forget about it.

Got 225/40/18 XL GSD3's on mine and they are a great tyre, very confident in the wet and dry.

Can you still get GSD3's?? My local tyre place, who are always helpful and competitive on price, are telling me that now only GSD2's are available?? Price offered though seems quite good £360 all in fitted and balanced for four 215/45/17.
