Default Disc and pad recommendations

Our '02 WRX has just had a service at Subaru4you and Len told us that the pads and discs need replacing soon.

So.... thinking of upgrading with grooved discs and decent pads, what to go for? Help!

The prodrive grooved discs are very good but a tad expensive for the pair. I have found that Pagid 8 or 16 groove discs are excellent as well when I had them mated to mintex M1155 pads, stainless steel hoses and acing fluid. Stay away from ebc not had any good dealings with their discs as they warped in appox 500m of driving.

Not many people that I know of who've had EBC discs and recommended them, which tells its own story. Tarox are highly thought of, DBA are supposed to be good.

Some people find the Mintex 1155 a little scary as they really need warming up before they bite. For advice try AS Performance on 01914 103770. Godspeed are also a popular choice and they make disks to various specs.

For pads I'd go for Pagid RS4-2.1.

Pagid "blues" - the RS4-2.1 mentioned above, plus Pagid 8-groove discs. This is a great combination, and not too aggressive for everyday driving either (i.e. you don't need to get them hot before they stop the car)

just to clarify a little confusion in your post,

the Pagid "blue" is coded rs4.2 and is indeed a blue coated pad backing...............................trackday type pad

the rs4.2.1 "black" is exactly that.................high performance road biased pad, slightly better life than the "blue" but lower o/a friction and temp abilities

hope this helps, alyn
