I'm thinking of getting some of these in gold, but the dealer said they weren't finished very well. Also a bit concerned about the size, ie will they rub anywhere.

Anyone got any pics?

Help much appreciated.

I have the very wheels.

They look excellent on the car, but the finish is absolutely rubbish. You can see (if you look closely) that they have hung the wheel up for spraying by the valve hole, as there is a bit on the wheel which was masked by the hook, near the hole. They are not much worse than a lot of wheels out there, like TSWs and others, but are not a patch on a set of Momos I had years back which were excellent.

Also, they rub, very slightly, on the back. I only noticed this after a go round knockhill, when someone pointed out the rubber collecting on the plastic strip on the inside of the left rear arch. All thats come off the tyre is the rim protector. Triming the plastic part of the arch is on my 'to do' list.

I am running 8x18s, ET50, with 215/35 tyres.

Do not be put off though, they look great rolling down the road.

Gareth,

Appreciate the quick reply, many thanks.

Does £1300 with Toyo Proxes sound about right? Also do you have any pics of them on yours?

Thanks again.

Might be worth having a look here as they have them on "Special Offer" at the moment.

No connections, etc. etc.

Duncan

PS If they weren't Gold, then I would have been interested ...., but I can't stand the flack from PSLewis (and they look naff on against the BBM (IMHO).

I do not have access to a digital camera at the moment, so can not post photos.

The only reason i got them was that they were on offer, £450+Vat for 4! This compared to almost £200 per wheel I had been quoted previously! The tyres were about another £100 per corner, so i had the whole lot fitted for about £1050. I do not think they are still on special there, this was an advert from Motorsport News.

Try Performance Parts in Luton. They sent me four Compomotive 18x8 ET50 6 spoke MO's for £440(VAT included)plus £17 to deliver. On an STi5 with eibachs they've never rubbed.

The finish is not excellent but as they only had gold left and I saved nearly £400 from previuos quotes, that will pay for a respray in the colour of my choice and then some.

I also have 225x35x18" tyres and still no rubs.

Guys...if you're driving with 18x8 ET50 wheels...and they've never rubbed.... *lmao* ...then you're not actually driving the car very hard are you?

I had MO's in the said size, with 215/35x18 Proxes, and they rubbed the rear lip (even with the protective rubber strip removed), I had to roll the rear arches.

Now they don't rub, not even on track.

...and this is on a stiffly sprung Leda equipped Scoob.

Thanks Jerry,

I still think they look the nuts! New ones look good too. What wing have you got? Mine's the DRM job but yours looks bigger. ooh er!

I do drive it hard so I will see how they go, I dont mind rolling the arches too much.

I have then too.

The finish isn't that bad to begin with but the problem is that the powder coating process that's used for painting them don't hold up very well. It has small pores in it and after a while the dirt sticks like glue.

BUT: Huge brakeclearance and massively strong..

Kippax,

Performance parts are doing them cheap! Got a set in gold on the shelf, unfortunately I put a deposit on the ones from Amber, which are still a good price but could have saved myself £120 !! Should have em next week.

Oh well.

Ta Sigmund.

Perhaps you could mention it to Amber and get them to match the other price.

What tyres are you getting?

Jack b, they are lovely wheels, really nice shape, huge face, nice and wide and fit the curves of the car just nice. Colour? personal preference. I'm getting mine done exactly the same silver as the car.

/J, your car looks lower than mine may be thats why it used to rub.

Cool

Jack,

Mines white too so I can mail a pic when I get them, next week. I'm going for the gold wheels though, they really look spot on, on a white car. Not sure about white on white though... probably quite good.

Give Performance Parts Luton a call, they have a gold set in very cheap!

Kippax>>True...but my car is very stiffly sprung, and doesn't lean much when cornering hard.
It's not a matter if it'll rub, it's a matter of when it'll rub.

They are too wide for the scooby, there's really nothing to discuss.
If you like to drive the car hard, you will have to roll the rear arches.

Kind regards

/J
