Question

I have just reached 15000 miles on my UK MY99 and was wanted to know how much more I can get out of my tyres (standard Bridgestones)

Most of my driving is motorway and I haven't done any track days (yet ).

The reason I want to know is I want to upgrade to 17" wheels and want to time when I need to replace the tyres anyway.

Also, had a look at the new brochure for Subaru wheels and was interested to note that it costs an extra £200 for an individual wheel/tyre package than the wheel on it's own for the 17" MIMs. Do 17" tyres really cost £200 each?

Peter,

Can't really help with the tyre wear thing since I've never had a set last longer than 10k (not many motorway miles ). But the original Bridgestones come with 6mm of tread when new so you should be able to work out how many miles you've got left.

17" tyres can be had for £100-150 each depending on what you want.

Blimey...You're doing well at 15K miles! My MY99 needed new tyres at 11K, and that was mainly motorway mileage.

I decided it was time to change when going around roundabouts, I got glorious 4-wheel drifts.

Don't get caught out.

Squizz

I don't intend leaving them on too long as when I upgrade to 17", would like to keep the current ones for track days.

Anyone else think that 15k is a long life on standard 16" tyres?

Cheers

I've got noticable tyre wear on the fronts at 2500 miles from new. Normal road use only to date. If I see 10K I'll be happy.

Currently on 17000.....but I have a suspicion that the tyres/wheels were changed at around 5500 as the car was 4 months old when I got it(previous owner scared of fuel bills!)and it had been fitted with 17" rims....sounds like 15000 is doing very very well.

You can get 17 tyres for around £65 each Falkens 205/50/17's ZE 502's, (also GRB's but they don't last as long).I've got them on my MY00 and they have probably lasted around 20K a lot of motorway miles, There not the best grip but it depends on your budjet I'm now going to try Goodyear F1's or SO-2's to see how much better they are.

MY99/RE010s - changed at 15K (almost at wear limit).

No significant difference before/after in normal driving, but a week later had front-end incident. Didn't quite stop in time but dread to think of outcome if old tyres were still on.

N.B. went for ex-P1 wheels/tyres from dealer. RE010s fine for my type of driving and fair price I guess for a change of look.

Cheers,
Gareth

I squeezed about 16k out of the original Bridgestones, but they were loking a bit ropey. They were rotated at the 7.5k service, but this didn't seem to make much difference as the wear was fairly even all round.

I just got 15000 out of my original tyres however I could have got more if I would have had the tracking checked and altered sooner than I did as it was way out from new. I just got a deal on ex P1 gold alloys and tyres also from dealer at £450 all in out of interest how much did you pay Gareth.

I got 18000 miles out of my original set on my previous car - then sold the car - but tyes prob only had another 1-2k left.

On present 00my I have done 12000 miles plus one track day and reckon will get another 2-3k miles out of them.
