Is it normal for standard Bridgestones on my MY02 to last around 12K ?? I swapped them front to rear at 6K there is loads of tread left except for the inside edge, the off side rear being the worst slick !! I had geometry checked twice when I first had the car because it tramlined so much (accident repair centre that local subaru dealer uses) I'm going to go for Toyo's or F1's but thought it might be advisable to get geometry done properly any advise on were to get that done in East Anglia ?

Thanks

John

Question

Common problem on all the bug-eyes and later it seems . I got 20K from my RE011's (MY01 PPP'd). When I repelaced them I got the tracking checked and it was spot on! Lots of peeps recommend going to TSL for an alternative tracking set up.

As above, yes its expected BUT

1) Swap round at 5k
2) At around 10k - look and see if theres still some tread on inside edge - you want to do 3) before they go bauld
3) Get a tyre shop to swop the tyres around ON THE WHEEL.. so the outside enge is now the old inside edge
4) go to 1)

You should get 20k out of 4 tyres!!

Don't do step 3 if you have directional tryes!

I've just had the original Potenzas changed for Eagle F1s - seems a new car! Quieter and no tramlining. Covered 14k miles on the old tyres, and had serious wear on the front insides only. Geometry check showed all was spot on. Was told by the garage that perhaps I did not drive/corner vigorously enough; I was not causing the front end to lift sufficiently to give even wear. Was told they had had to set the geometry deliberately out for one or two other customers, so that slow city driving did not cause such uneven wear.

Could this be true? I should be happy to have evidence to convince my wife I should be "more positive" in my cornering, etc.

Bludax, What a load of B---ocks you've been told!
I thrashed my 02wrx and got just 10K out of all tyres, including swapping front to rear. Reckon the PPP didn't help. Insides totally gone.
It's a design fault and IM don't want to know, and there was nothing wrong with the tracking.

Same problem with my '02. Not sorted it properly yet, but I drive sorta medium (harder than previous cars, but not every drive is wild).

Keep watching this forum (as I have) for a few weeks and every week someone mentions excessive wear on the front insides of bug eye models.

I've made 13.5k in mine.

Red face

I had an Audi S3 from new until I traded it for a scoob a fortnight ago, it was running the same Bridgestone RE040's as I have on my STI7. After 13000 miles the very inside edge of the front were completly f***ed. I went mad at Audi who didn't give a sh*t.

My guess is that the 4 wheel drive cars are setup with an amount of negative camber and this must increase once the vehicle is in motion.
