Having two new fronts fitted to my WRX today, which is being serviced.
They quoted me £80 for laser alignment - I smell a rat.
Just what would my 80 notes get me that a cheapo tyre place would probably do for a 20 quid ?
BTW the money's not the issue here seeing as the service is costing me absolutely zippo, but as I've had 3 calls already for "essential" work I think they are trying to claw some money back by creative invention.

Thats exactly what I did in the end.
Someone local is gonna be getting the benefit of my 20-30 notes in the next couple of hours

£80 spent on alignment with PowerStation or TSL could be worth it (it was in my case) but I'd question that a dealer or general tyre place has the knowledge of the settings to do it.

I paid £35 and that's more than enough the ammount you've quoted I'd expect then to pick up the car and return for that (via a transporter). It certained helped with my tyre wear problem.
I had severe wear on the inside of the wheels and this fixed it my Subaru garage certainly couldn't (well done Lancaster Sevenoaks - NOT).
I'd shop around, if you are getting uneven wear than it's certainly worth while, but it's over the odds, look how much others have paid on here.

Laser alignment and camber settings - £45-ish(Micheldever Tyres or Mill Lane Engineering, Basingstoke)
Power Engineering was about £80.
Anything that improves the life of your tyres as well as handling can't be a bad thing!

Getting a full geometry check can transform the car.
My P1 was put on Hunter gear, and whilst all the settings were more or less 'within tollerance', to use Subaru speak, they were all over the place. Got everything set to the middle of the tollerances, and it was like driving a different car.
Yet the previous week, I'd had the tracking checked, and was told it was fine

Had mine done ages ago at Power Station in Cheltenham. The ride home was great the car was a lot better. Its down to the guy doing the car..... But I drove from London to have it done as I had heard such good reports about them.
