Unhappy

My wife's kerbed the front left wheel. No damage to the wheel, but she's taken a chunk out of the sidewall of the almost new Toyo. It's like a cut that is about 3cm across and no more than 1/2 cm deep.... but it's on the sidewall and that nearside front does tend to take some abuse.

I'm worried it might blow especially when hot. Am I being over the top? Anyone know how thick the side wall on a Toyo is (205/50/16) and therefore whether a 1/2cm deep pit makes a difference.

If it does need to be replaced, what about some cheap suppliers in Kent - I've got £86 all in so far.

Thanks.

John

IMHO
I would change it, espercially as it is a front.

You should really change both the tyres on the same axle or you might damage a diff due to the tyres rolling radius being different (think it is a diff). I di get away with it i had two new tyres, less than a 1000 miles later a nasty pucture in one of 'em. Ther was little wear on the other so just changed one and got away with it.

Exclamation

Most high speed blowouts are reckoned to be as a result of kerb type sidewall impact damage which might have occurred months before - bin it!

Change it.

I had something similar, and the tear in the tyre grew very quickly. I don't think it would have lasted much longer - was quite worrying to see a little nick become a huge chasm in a few days.

I know it's the best part of £100 per tyre, but it's cheaper than you and the car ending up in a ditch...

Depends how aggressivly you want to drive. I did this on a hidden stone in France, repaired the cut with "Superglue", and it still seems to be holding.
I don't drive like a madman, but nor do I hang about!

Alcazar - like your style. Looking to go climbing this weekend & one of my ropes took a slight cut on last outing. Can I borrow your glue to repair it

Changed the tyre this afternoon. The guy at the tyre place said he thought I could get away with it ..... but he did also say he wouldn't worry unless he could see the threads coming through from the other side - scary suggestion or what!!!! Anyway job done and better safe than sorry.

Cheers to all for the advice.
