Default Tyre centre brake refit horror

Afternoon all ,
so car went in yesterday to have front pads done , after sat watching for 20 mins the lad hadn’t managed to remove 1 pad , a lot of swearing , head scratching and his colleagues giving there two penny’s worth and o had to walk in and say what’s up especially as the hammer , wrench and screwdrivers we’re getting bigger.
so he told me that the pistons in the callipers have siezed yet there is no braking problems. Now I have changed many pads on my submarines over the years and found them very simple , two clips, two pins and the spring and out they come normally.
so the car is a 2016 wrx sti woth 27,000 miles.
I did notice that he hadn’t cracked the bleed Nipple which I normally do would this make a huge difference and allow the piston to release or is this a common fault ? I believe they are Brembo callipers although Sti logo as there the same as on previous 2004 Sti
any thoughts or ideas please.

No way they would be seized on that of a newer car, brembos use stainless steel pistons i believe that these do not seize as frequently, unless you literally park your car in a swamp. On my brembos i didn't need to crack the bleed nipple to push the pistons its not super easy but not super difficult either to do by hand. the whole of the above just sounds little strange.

Hi
Actually the Brembo's use aluminium pistons , and very very rarely sieze , I cannot remember the last time we fitted any new pistons into STi brembos , and we do a lot of them every month.
What's probably happened is the pad plates have lifted due to corrosion under them , and jamming the pads in place , this is a very common occurrence , once the pads have been removed , they need to clean under the pad plates and bend them back into place , this way you will be able to fit the pads back in easily.
We never crack open the bleed nipples just to push the pistons back in , we only open them when bleeding them
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

Why would anyone use a tyre place to replace pads anyway?

because one of my colleagues has broken his heel and I’m now doing two peoples jobs and I work 7 days a week and they are 150yds from where I work ......convienience I think !! Lol
yes I also forgot to add that they actually bent one of the tops of the old pads trying to free it and scored my bloody callipers with their wrench !!!
to be honest I’ve had a very quick look and they seem tight , not being dim but would any type of hill start assist etc make any difference ? Yes I know the floor was level ! Just asking.

Sounds like corrosion under the pad plates making the pads tight , every pair of STi Brembo's we have in to recondition , has this problem , I can pretty much guarantee this is your problem , get the garage to ring me if you want and I can advise , 01656 723060

I wouldnt trust 99.9999% of tyre places to even put the correct air in my tyres, never mind pads,
As you proved with your post, they arent the place to take a car unless you want damaged calipers and knackered brakes lol lol lol

couldn’t agree more mate. Everyone has there own specialist they trust or they even do it themselves. I wouldn’t take it to any random garage.
