LOOKING FOR BIKE - PEANUT CHEAP
Hey all
In progression to getting licence and learning basic mechanic-ary, would like to get hold of a dirt cheap bike. And i mean, dirt cheap !
Something that's either running and needs tidying or is a non-runner with little bits needed (i say little as restricted knowledge at the mo)
Anyone help ?
ta very much !!

not bothered on size of engine .... i don't necessarily have to ride this bike for daily use, just to check its engine setup is correct, firing correctly etc
guess i would prefer 4 stroke .. but again whatever's offered !
peanuts means peanuts... next to nothing <4-500
just looking for something to tinker with that someone may have sitting around in their garage gathering dust... he says hoping...

Years ago my brother bought a Kawasaki Z250 (C3 model I think) and it was a non runner at the time. We both learned huge amounts when we re-built it so I would recommend one of them as a 4 stroke. When I turned 17 I bought a Yamaha RD 125LC which was a bit of a mess and I sorted it out, got it through an MOT and learned loads about 2 stroke engines. Rebuilt the gearbox and then replaced ALL the engine seals whilst the engine was split with just a Haynes manual to refer to. If your after a 2 stroke I would recommend one of these or a DT/TZR. Early Nineties versions of the RD/DT/TZR should be well under the 1k mark and if non-runners should easily be under £500. By the way all three have very similar parts so should be easy to sort.
If you want to go really old skool 2 stroke, get a fizzie (Yamaha FS-1E 50cc) they rock old skool style

Ah, a bit far from the likely places that I know of for cheap bikes. If you have a bike breakers near you, visit one and enquire if they have any salveageable bikes. You never know you may find a scruffy crosser like a DT-R (Yamaha)/TS-R (Suzuki)/KMX/KDX (Kawasaki) that you could have some mega fun with For what your after also consider stolen/recovered bikes they're dirt cheap.

As an example click on the clink below and go to the Bargain Basement. The Honda Bros 400 at £550 is a bargain as long as all the bits are there.
