Hi Paul, I have kept the standard shocks on my wagon and have just gone for apex lowering springs from eBay. 30mm drop and only £112 .
Here is a link to a thread I started when i fitted them... The car has settled a little since the pictures. Hope this helps

Hi Paul

Reasonable priced coilovers are not the best option, not sure what is for you reasonable price for coilovers

But we are running on our wagon HSD HR coilovers and depends on your budget and from this I would go like with shocks/springs or coilovers

But STI springs and shocks can be good upgrade on yours

Good upgrade can be KYB AGX with good springs,Tokico shocks with good springs

Hi Paul

Best you can get KYB is from Camskill.co.uk

http://www.camskill.co.uk/m10b0s2662...ion_-_Shockers

About the your budget on coilovers, you can have like BC or Racing Logic coilovers both have lots of good reviews and are mostly used

Here is few pictures of coilovers fitted on wagon

I went down the KYB adjustable damper route with Eiback springs and they work well in combination with ARB's etc. Much less forgiving than standard though, so be prepared for a harder ride than you have currently. If you can, have a ride in a car with your prefered set up on.

Jura - saw the wagon in Jap Performance. Good to see a Bug Wagon getting some honours!

Hi Paul

Thanks

Those KYB is good compromise like in price and comfort

Not sure which are better, but I'm sure someone will confirm Ultra SR seems are better choice than Excel-G,but best choice are KYB AGX,they're cost around £500

If you are used to harder/firmer ride you will be OK like with coilovers or shocks/springs combo

I run the AGX on the softest setting and the ride is not bad at all - still tighter than standard of course. Although, the choice of tyre is as critical. I've found running the same dampers/springs with different tyres makes a huge difference. The best combination I've found (so far) is with Dunlop Sport Maxx GT's.
