Unhappy

my 95 wrx saloon has started to tramline really badly over uneven/broken surfaces.the suspension is standard other than powerflex rear drop links.a basic tracking check seemed ok and nothing seems unduely worn underneath.the car is running standard wheels(16's)with potenza re101's,5mm &33psi front and 6mm & 30psi rear.any idea's greatly appreciated , except for visiting one of the many "specialists" oop narth!!!(i'm 110 miles from the nearest motorway junction, might as well be the moon!!)

I found that when my '99 Turbo started to tramline, I checked the tyre pressures. I have always run all my Imprezas 36 front and 34 rear. All of them have tramlined under braking on an undulating surface to some degree. I have found that the slightly harder tyre pressures make the front end feel a little firmer and gives it better turn in response. May be my imagination though.

Worth a try IMHO

Tyres can make a difference. When I got my MY01 WRX, the original Bridgestone RE011's tramlined like crazy. After a few months I managed to buy some different Bridgestones, RE015's, which have a softer compound and tramlining disappeared.

See if you can borrow some wheels, tyres from another scooby owner and try them out.

If you get the Prodrive, or TSL gemoetry settings put on the car I've found it totally removes all tramlining that you get with the standard settings.
Greatly reduces understeer too, well worth it!

I found that moving to an alternative tyre (Michelin Pilot sports) from the OEM birdgestone on an My01 WRX that the tramlining disappreared. Powerstation geo change did not help but the tyres fixed it.

What are the Prodrive, or TSL gemoetry settings for a MY01?

don't know exactly but they're both loads of camber and loads of toe in.

I think TSL have more camber than Prodrive (could be wrong) cos there was less understeer, more balance mid corner and greater wear on the inner edges of the tyres than with the prodrive settings.
Not that Prodrive's weren't great.

I'm currently running with group a camber bolts giving 1.6degrees camber (can be set up to 2.5, but serious track use only or new tyres every 200 miles) whereas I think the maximium is 1degree withthe standard bolts and it's AWESOME! Zero understeer, she just starts to slide gently in the wet on the limit. Haven't approached the limit in the dry yet (mainly cos there's not much dry weather recently!)
