Surely it only helps the insurance company out should your pride and joy be stolen.
If your current insurance does not require a tracker then why go to the expense of getting one fitted now?
Has the recent spate of car thefts affected your decision?
Would you want your car returned if it was recovered?

I phoned the local nik when i got my scoob to ask their advice on TRACKER. Replied as follows,
For us, GREAT, it means we recover 99% of the cars and catch a few criminals to boot
For you ,Well I wouldn't like my car back in the state we find most of them in, or after what they've been through.
I didn't get one.......but when I upgrade to a newer scoob I still probably will

If it's a known fact that all Imprezas, or at least all MY01/02s have tracking devices as a condition of their insurance, this will make them less likely to be nicked/car-jacked in the first place.

My main reason for having a Tracker fitted mirror more or less what has been said before.
Firstly if all the scum out there realise we have trackers they will be less interested in our cars.
Secondly it means that hopefully thieves are more likely to be caught & hopefully put behind cars.
As for the cars being damaged, well I can put up with that if the above two points become more likely.

let say your car got robbed and returned to you thanx to the tracker but your car is smashed up. will the insurance company pay for the damages?
even if they do, i would't like it if my car had to go through all that pain.

I would not want mine back
My mate had his cosworth nicked got it back it had been thrashed around a gravel quarry(stone chipped to hell and sand everwhere)had reggae music CDs in the glove box smelt of dodgy **** and needles under the seatsand it never drove and sounded the same
so he got rid.
So no would not want my back again.

I wonder how much difference the type of Tracker you have makes to how early you get your car back/it's recovered. I have a pro-active system, this means that the traker company will tell me when the car is moving without the tracker being de-activated first. This system would mean that the car should be being tracked within minutes.
Some systems you have tell the tracker company that the car has been stolen before they start tracking. This could be many hours later if it's stolen in the middle of the night.
I suspect that the cars that have a lot of damage done to them are the ones without the pro-active systems fitted.

I had to have a tracker fitted due to my insurance policy.
However, i was not a big fan of trackers, and was reluctant to fit one. why? Well, anyone who knows my car will know that it's not exactly subtle, so if someone nicks it, it will probablt be for some joy riding, and to be honest, due to it being rather low, it's likely to get a fair old pasting, and as such, I'd rather not get it back, plus if they smash it up, and do serious damage, but not serious enough to warrant a write off then regardless of how well it was repaired i'd never feel I'd be able to fully trust it. I've smashed cars before and had the repaired (not scoobs though) and afterwards they just don't 'feel' the same.
Because of this, fitting a tracker to me seemed like a bad idea as it would mean the car would be recovered and probably fixed, and I'd probably not be happy with that.
However, as said, I have had to fit one, and to be honest, I've not looked back.
would i fit one to another car? probably, especially if a scooby, but that would once again probably be due to the insurance company requiring one.
