Red face

Driving home on Friday afternoon heading out of Armadale towards Whitburn. Nothing in front of me until I came down the hill towards the roundabout at the Cantonese restaurant next to the M8.

I was heading into Whitburn so pulled up to the right of the line of traffic. There was a group of lads in a Ford Escort in front of me sitting right in the middle of the lanes.

As we both pulled out he started weaving about in front of me; he was all over the shop. Never thought much of it - just some guy being a bit of an **** or showing off to his mates in the car.

But then it got serious. I was sitting back a bit, but he started slowing right down and looking at me through his wing mirror. Then the two lads in the back turned around and started laughing. He was still weaving around, so I though I'm not following this f@nny through the town centre, so I indicated to take the main road past Whitburn and towards Polkemmet Country Park.

He slammed on his brakes just before the junction, then turned in the same direction as I was heading. It's a long straight road, so I held back a bit. Either he'd get the message that I was in no mood to play games and pi$$ off up the road or at least give me the chance to blast past him.

That was easier said than done. He just kept braking hard and weaving around. All the time he was looking at me in his mirrors and screaming his head off. Anyway, I decided it would be better to get past him, so I dropped the car into 2nd and pulled out, giving him a wide berth. As I got along side him he just swerved right across the road towards my car. I had to lift off a bit to avoid him, but thankfully got past.

All I remember is him leaning out of the window and screaming and shouting at me as I went past. God knows what the hell he was on.

I couldn't believe it. I hadn't done anything to wind him up, but he was obviously in a rage about something. I wasn't weaving around myself or flashing my lights. I never shouted anything back at them, but his whole face was red and he was screaming at the top of his voice and waiving his arms about inside the car. Guess I was too amazed to react to things.

You've really got to ask yourself why some of these idiots are allowed on the roads these days. Maybe it was just the fact that I was driving a Scoob that pi$$ed him off.

I've had the car for well over two years and only met a few @rseholes on the road, but nothing more than average. Thankfully I didn't have any of the family with me as I think it would have shaken them up pretty badly.

I'm starting to think I'd be better off in Afghanistan with the Marines as it all seems a bit more dangerous over here.

Stefan

Not good Stefan

A good reason to carry a mobile in the car, just pull over to the side of the road, and phone the police, saying that you are concerned the driver could kill someone and that you think they should put a car out right away.

Thanks for your comments guys.

It hasn't bothered me at all; I've just put it down to one of those things. It's like when you meet some drunken idiot at a club/pub. Best thing to do is to just ignore them and let the situation cool down by itself.

Sometimes things get out of hand no matter how hard you try and avoid them, but thankfully nothing came of it. Didn't see any point in making the situation worse by getting out of the car. Things would go downhill fast and with four of them and only one of me I didn't fancy the odds anyway

Cool

Stefan,

Best thing to do with t0ssers like that is get their licence number an call it in2 the plods, reporting a dangerous driver or suspected drunken driver (due to his behaviour)
The pointy heads r keen 2 jump on dangerous/drunk drivers.
Top tip keep a large size mag-light in the mota with batteries
(it evens the odds up a fair bit

Stefan, i've been in a situation similar.

A couple of months ago i was going to Uni at St Andrews from Edinburgh.

I was queing at the tolls when these 2 thugs in a Rover were waving and swearing/screaming at me in the other lane. I looked over and they were giving me the "wot u looking at" crap. I then went into another lane and got across the bridge fairly quickly. I was on the motorway and was doing a comfortable 85-90mph and i couldn't see him anywhere.

So i thought i was ok. Then a mile or 2 up the road i saw a car behind me flashing other drivers out of the way and undertaking/overtaking like a lunatic. I realised it was those 2 guys again. I did'nt know what to do and decided it would be best to floor it (possibly not the best idea). Well before i knew it i had 128mph on the speedo and he was still chasing me. We drove like that for about 5-8 miles i think until he caught me going up a hill (i was at v.max). Just as he was about to overtake i slammed on the anchors so he couldn't try to ram me. He went flying past and braked and then he decided to carry on.

I was sweating like hell as i did'nt want 2 25y/o thugs to get theie hands on me (19 y/o by himself). I was lucky that nothing serious happened as driving that fast in a crappy Nissan Sunny is not a good idea.

Sorry about the novel but i thought i would tell you.

Cheers,

Kos

Stefan, you have to remember the area you were travelling through. I have lived here for about 20years and the level of crime is eye opening.

The more likely scenario is that it was a stolen car, with the driver either pi**ed or stoned. Where they have set out to noise up people and eventually the local plod, resulting in the usual car chase and burnt out vehicle on one of the local backroads.

Taking the reg number would have done no good. Also what powers do the Police have now, not a bloody lot, unless you are a law-abiding driver with the odd lapse in concentration

Glad your okay.....John
