Unhappy Bike Accident - at Knockhill Sunday 2nd

A competitor has died following an accident during a race at Knockhill motor racing circuit in Fife.
Ian McDonald was taking part in a motorcycle race when he lost control and fell from his bike.

The 33-year-old, from Guardbridge, Fife, had been taking part in a 400cc Sports Production Bike Race.

After falling from his bike Mr McDonald was struck by another rider. He was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to revive him.

Fife Constabulary confirmed the accident happened at about 1540 BST on Sunday.

A spokeswoman for Knockhill Racing Circuit said: "We pass on our sincere condolences to Mr McDonald's family and friends."

A report is being sent to the procurator fiscal.

Heard about this earlier today. Absolutely tragic news. Condolences to his family and friends.

Had just spoken to my mother earlier, and she informed me of this, that my cousin has been in bits all day. he races the 400cc supersport and ian was one of his good mates, who he reguarly shared a Van with. Dangerous sport, but you dont see to much of this on track races, my heart goes out to the guy and his family, doing something he loved.

Heard about this on radio forth earlier. Very, very sad and my thoughts and condolences are with Ian's family and anyone who knows him.
A sad day for Scottish motorsport.

Heard about the accident earlier, was absolutely shocked, you expect the odd getoff but on a track at least you never expect to hear this. My heart goes out to the guy and family.
