Help regarding v5 , awkward situation
I'm in a situation with a car I've just put a deposit down on
The car is from northern Ireland and has a private plate on , a dealer from the uk bought the car from the guy in Ireland and the guy kept the paperwork (v5 , tax disc, mot certificate ) so he could take it into his local DVLNI office to transfer his private plate off the car onto another , he was then going to send over the new documents with replacement plates etc to the dealer in England
In the mean time the dealer has photocopy of both the tax disc and the log book (all parts) for his keeping , he has also put 12 months mot on the car in England so has an mot certificate (albeit on the private reg for now)
He was expecting the new docs any day when I viewed it and after looking through all the paperwork in photocopies etc I was happy enough to wait and left a deposit
A week or so past and still no docs , so I contacted both the original keeper in Ireland and the DVLNI , it appears that 3 weeks ago the guy in Ireland hand delivered all the documents for both the Subaru and another car he was wanting to transfer the plate onto in person to his local DVLNI in ballymena
However DVLNI have no record of these docs or application ever being with them
So now the v5 , tax disc etc are lost
What's the best way forward now , the DVLNI are now talking about applying for replacement docs (up to 4 weeks) , then once there received by the guy in Ireland , re-apply for transfer of reg (up to 6 weeks)
That's potentially 10 weeks !!!!
The tax disc is the biggest issue , log book is irrelevant to using the car and driving it away and it has a current 12 months mot cert matching the private reg
The car is taxed until November so plenty of time to sort out the issue but will a photocopy and an explanation keep the police at bay ?
Any advice welcome guys
I really want the sale to go through regardless of which option I take but I'd rather not sit on my hands for 10 weeks if possible
Thanks

'If' the v5 has been lost the origional keeper can apply for a replacement which will be sent to him, the same with the tax disc so thats easy. If he handed it in as apposed to posting it he will have a reciept, ask him.
