Default turbo 2000 issue, please help

hi guys

i recently just got myself a 2000 plate turbo 2000.
it is having a issue with hesitation on full boost, the car is completely standard and has no cel codes flashing up. it has been progressively getting worse since i got the car. so far i have changed over most of the vacuum hoses, changed the coil pack and also changed the plugs. when i tool the old plugs out it is clear the engine is running very rich, i have also noticed a bit of oil coming out of the elbow just before the intercooler on the hot side. i have tightened up the clamp though. i am a bit stuck regarding this issue as i would have thought with that much hesitation it would throw up a cel code.

thanks

hi

no the restrictor pill was put back inline when i changed the hoses. no the car is completely standard. the car has hesitated ever since i got the car, originally i thought is was ignition related but if it was i would have had a management light

Maf sensor I would say, very common on an my00, it's been some years since I've owned one but its about 80 quid from subaru!
Of course it might not be, that's where I would start!

that is one of the options i thought it might be, would the maf not bring up a management light though?

the things i thought it might be it either maf, bov, actuator or the cat collapsed.

No, they won't throw up a code, think if you unplug it with the engine running, a good maf sensor will make the engine cut out! I think that's the case anyways! Like I say, it's been a few years since I needed to worry about them

Just buy a new MAF from Alyn@AS Performance, first thing to do with any MY99/00 Impreza

Get a loan of a 'good' MAF and try it first rather than spunking 80odd straight off without knowing if its the cause.

If its not the cause now it's very possible it could be in the future. So I'd get a new one for sure, just for peace of mind if anything

Is it sporadic? Or is it consistent at certain revs?

Have you tried running a diagnostic?
Does the CEL illuminate on start up?
The bulb on the CEL may have been pulled and your heading for a whole world of pain. The link below will help with codes and how to read them

hi guys

thanks for all the advice, i was starting to loose my patience with it.
the problem is throughout the rev range but worse on full throttle.
it only hesitates on boost. i do have a boost gauge to go in but need to get more vac hose before i can fit. i pulled the plug from the maf while it was running and i spluttered and then idled as it was before i pulled the plug. i reconnected it up again and reset the ecu.
the car was slightly better after i done that but progressively went back to how it was.

Could be a faulty knock sensor, they can go without triggering the EML and start sending "false knock" signals to the ECU. The ECU then starts pulling the timing which would give you that stuttering hesitation.

As above, the knock sensors are notorious for failing too.
If I bought a late classic I'd be replacing the MAF and knock sensor as part of my initial service.
