First Subaru
Hi, very new here and open to suggestions. I've previously owned a BMW E36 M3 and am now driving a Fiesta 1.4. Always fancied an AWD subaru or mitsubishi and feel now is the time to dip my toe in the water. The AWD will be a weekend car rather than daily commute as the Fiesta can do the running around.
I've spent a few days looking around the forum and at internet ads, but feel I need some advice as to what to look for. I'm leaning towards an already modded, cared for motor....something to match or outperfom the acceleration of the M3!
For example, this car on ebay is quite local (SE London) - are there any questions I should be asking if I went to see it?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...item4d0c45c3c9
It's early days yet and I don't want to rush into buying something I'll later regret, or the missus won't let me forget!!
Thanks in advance ...

I really doubt this cars power, apart from the turbo there isn't a clear list of what's been done. I take it this is a 5 speed and on oem breaks? Who mapped the car would be a good question?

Personally just off the advert & description I wouldn't even bother going to see it.
It seems to keep saying how fast it is & that he has raced a few things in it including Motorbikes!
Also no mention of service history either,

Thanks, that's just the sort of feedback I need! I noticed from looking at a few of the cars for sale here that there's usually a lot more information (not that I understand it all!)
Any pointers in considering one of the following advertised here? Cost may well be an issue, especially the 2008 hatch (even more so if engine needs attention?)

Buying one from a member on here would probably be a better bet, It will probably have been treated correctly & cherished as their pride & Joy,
Also you can do a little snooping & check their previous posts / build thread to see if they have ever mentioned any major issues or problems that they may have had

Just to add, the seller of the eBay car you linked to says "you get all this on WRX insurance". Translated, that reads "if you have to claim for any reason whatsoever, you will find you are not insured". What a moron.
If you're looking at Bugs (the 2000 - 2002 cars) such as the one in that link, make sure you look very hard for rust underneath, especially the front subframe. Blobs (2002 - 2006) go too, but not so badly (at present....)
Good luck with your search. Please keep us posted.

I don't have a specific type in mind. Colour and shape come secondary to provenance at this stage (unless the wife really moans!)
The classic type ra may be too much of a responsibility for a newbie like me .... but I'm trying to keep an open mind, so keep the ideas coming please

Just the way the ad is written is a total put off for me personally. I want to see an advert which states facts about the car, rather than the sellers opinions.
I wouldn't buy a car that heavily modified........why not go for something which has a good history, has evidently been well looked after, and has some simple mods like a remap, stainless steel exhaust system, 18" wheels and possibly things like an adjustable rear anti roll bar and/or an anti lift kit. Look at Pistonheads adverts, many good cars there.
