Default the best turbo timer for my 2005 wrx impreza

Hey,

I was looking to get a turbo timer for my impreza. I have found two kinds of timer-type 0 and type 1 which is the more advanced one but didn't know which one would be the best one for my car-any advice?

None, you don't need one. Save your money for something worthwhile.

Personally I wouldn't bother, They can invalidate your insurance for a start.

I recently bought one & then figured out that I couldn't lock my car or set the alarm whilst it was still running so had to stand there until the turbo timer stopped, A bit pointless really.

I liked that a turbo timer would make my turbo spool earlier and reduce turbo lag. So its not a good idea to get one then?

A manual one is best, (yourself)
Drive accordingly on way home and going out.

The best turbo timer is yourself, you know when you have been given the loud peddle a nice push, that when you come to a stop at your destination just give the car a few minutes to cool down and get oil around your engine parts before you switch off simples.SJ.

I thought that newage cars didn't need the cooling down method, I'm sure it says something in the manual

A turbo timer will not do any of those things.

But if I get it remapped wouldn't that mean I would need to upgrade my ECU?

Only if you somehow have an ecu that cannot be flashed with custom code. newer models are not my area but as far as I know, they are still flashable?

This is funny.

Use the search function at the top buddy. I think your getting confused with a dump valve, and guess what, a dump valve won't do any of those things either.

You don't need a turbo timer or an aftermarket dump valve.

Nope. All impreza ecu's are mappable, earlier models need a little chip fitting thats all.

Always best to take the last couple of minutes of a hard drive steady on any model.

you have an 05 wrx, so your ecu is mappable and it's the way to alter such things.

A turbo timer simply keeps your car running after you get out with your key.

The X depending on whether you have an automatic turbo timer that does its best to sense how hard you have been driving (via ignition pulses most of the time if memory serves?) and applies cooldown time accordingly, or a dumb one that runs on for a fixed amount of time.

You don't need one. As others have said, put the money towards something worthwhile. I had one on an GTFour Celica but that was linked up to the Alarm too so was fine for insurance. Modern FI cars, especially the newage Imprezas don't need them. From memory our turbos are oil and water cooled rather than the older cars that were only oil.

Here's a post with some more info one the cooling procedure:
