Default UK300 for £3000, good or bad?

I've been offered a UK300 for £3k with the following spec

128k
tax july
mot june
12 stamps in service book, last serviced 27/10/12,
cambelt has been done twice
gearbox and clutch replaced at 111393 with reciepts to prove
De-cat system, induction kit
apexi avc-r black adjustable boost controller (ALARM BELLS??)

Also has all the usual UK300 bits. The seller claims he took it to Thwaites and Mark "played with it" to get it up to 255bhp, that doesnt sound right to me but could be something a decent map would sort out.

I like the car and the seller seems very genuine so I'm just wondering if £3k for the car is a bargain, about right, or steer clear??

Is there any difference between a stock WRX engine and a UK300? Different map or turbo?

Cheers, Paul

£3000 is the going rate for bugeye Wrx so it sounds fair to me as all a uk300 is really just a Wrx with a few subtle changes

I would opt for a bugeye Sti if your budget can stretch to one?

Have you phoned Thwaites? Is it just the PPP that's upped the BHP?

the PPP on the uk 300 states 240bhp/260lbft.

my uk 300 was rr'd last month at 241bhp/227lbft.

the differences over a std wrx are the headlights, rear spoiler, front bumper spoiler, blue suede sti seats (just without the sti stitching), the prodrive exhaust and the 18" wheels

the IC should have a uk300 sticker on it, there should be a plaque either below ashtray or on the sunvisor bit above the rear view mirror with the build no on it, and of course the wing and boot uk300 stickers.

i paid a fair bit more than that for mine last month, but mine has 76k miles and an api recon engine with receipt for £3500, it has a FULL subaru history and i even have the original bill of sale, and prodrive certificate.

the one you are looking at is certainly the cheapest i have seen, so there may well be a reason.

I don't think any UK300 warrants much more than 3 grand, not when you consider how much an STI can be had for now.

Thanks lads. My budget will go to 4.5k at a push but I can't find any new age sti's out there. The one at jdm performance on piston heads sold Monday.

3k for that 300 is more than I'm willing to pay so I'll pass on it

Just take your time, rushing into a car bacause 'you really want it' is a mistake. Chill out, keep searching and be patient. The right car at the right money will come along, and trust me, you'll be glad you waited.

im not sure 3k is over the top for a uk 300, id take a look and make him an offer, a few simple mods and a remap would make it not to bad power wise.
at least you know the clutch and box have been replaced.
most wrx of this age come with nasty aftermarket sti spoilers at least the uk 3000 has a genuine spoiler and other cosmetic bits.
