which of these 2 should I buy??? - both WRXs
#1
Hi All,
Have "enough" money to buy either of these, though having more free cash is always nice.
I am considering a brand new(euro imported) WRX in blue, bucket seats, 12 months tax registerd blah blah £18K otr.
or I have a friend with
A silver WRX, same spec as above but only 4 months tax and warantee expired. It has been driven enthusiastically but only on track once - I know the owner well, it too is an import has done 16k miles. Very tidy, tyres good, just serviced. He wants 15800 for it.
So which would make most sense? Am I tipping money away by buying new even though its an import? As I say, I can afford either, but obviously dont want to waste money if the cheaper option would be as good.
any views, thanks Andy

By careful selection of your import agent or dealer you could source a new WRX for around 16.5-17k which would seem to be the best option of all.
If not a possibility, I would go for the new WRX (the incremental cost over the other one is only 2k or 12.5%). It would be a different matter if your mate's car was a higher spec (e.g. PPP, UK300, etc.)

Personally I would go for a new one. You get the warranty and its basically costing you 2K more. Plus it will be a 2002 model rather than a 2001 model. Okay it has just been serviced but are the tyres new, are the brakes new, it the clutch new, is the interior new, it the paint work 100%. You will have to do 16K miles in the new one to be at the same point in the old one. When you come to sell it will be one owner rather than 2. It all adds up IMHO.

I take you point they may do a good deal on last year stock but
I think I would use another importer if they tried to sell me an 01 to be honest unless it was a special deal. The car would still be registered as a 2002 car and unless you are a scoob guru you aint going to know, its not like the change from My00 to My01.

The new one is a 2002, its due in the country in a few days.
I think you guys all make sense in what your saying, Ive had a mixed ride with second handers before. My integra was a stormer, but the 306 GTI was a pup.
If anyones interested my running order can be found here

just need to plan the upgrades now, starting with a scoobysport back box............
