Default Ticking Noise....

Hi all,

WRX STi Spec D 07/07 27k miles.

When the car is stationary, I can hear a ticking noise from the passenger side of the engine, from cold / hot.

Is this considered to be normal? Injectors working?....or a chocolate tappet / cam?

It seems to drive fine, with no problems, but why do I hear this one side, and not the other? Secondary air pump perhaps? I know that this sits between the TMIC and battery.

Could be a few things but wouldn't worry all that much. Have you changed oil recently?? Most Imprezas have some sort of noise. Just turn the radio up

Oil changed only 2k miles ago, level always checked and a small top up every few weeks I guess - just a slug is enough.

Lol yes I would turn the radio up if the speakers weren't so crap!

I'd keep an ear on that, it could be a broken piston ring land, common on 2.5's.
Other symptoms of that include smoking more than usual, and eventually, lumpy idle.

Yes, deffo the passenger side, but not sure about when I rev it, you can't hear the noise inside the car, it's quite slight.

I'll get a mate to rev it and I'll have a listen by the NSF wheel arch.

That way I can listen down lower than if under the bonnet if you see what I mean. I can't see any oil leaks or anything.

The drivers side bank is silent.
