Do you drive with two throttle positions, off or full throttle? The only time I have got lower than that was on a track day when I got 8 mpg other wise I get 20-24 running around and 27-28 at 80-90mph on the motorway .

Question

Just bought a MY99 import and I am loving every minute of it. Unfortunately after refilling a couple of times I have discovered that i'm only getting 11.8mpg this can't be right can it?. I know I've been maybe enjoying the car a little too much but surely I should be getting better than this. Can anybody shed some light on this.

Cheers
Axe

you are allowed to use 4th and 5th!

what mods does your car have - 12 sounds a little low for non track use.

I have a my00+ppp+Scoobysport exhaust and I get 22 on a run.

Axeman,
By import I take it you mean WRX - STI,and if you are REALLY enjoying it the this figure is entirely believeable-although if you combine this with some 'normal' driving you should be able to get around 18-20mpg.

Around 22 mpg for me around town.

Climbs up to 29 on motorway.

You bit of a binary driver???? Either full on or full off???

12 seems way low

I should check the calibration on your speedo if I were you, then check you havent got a hole in your tank!!. you can easilly get down to these sort of figures on track, but don't expect to live long if you drive like that on the road.

As far as I can tell its just a normal 99 turbo not WRX/STi. Does go like stink tho but as I've never been in another unmodified turbo I'm not sure if its been modified or not. Its got a bog standard exhaust, air filter etc. :confused

you're telling me you dont know if its a wrx sti or uk spec scooby!!! jeez where did u get the car from! my advice would b to take it to a specialist dealing with subarus, there are plenty around. Get it serviced and tuned straight away and pick their brains about your car, im assuming it is not a sti as it would be obvious,if you have a pic post it up or send it to me, will have a go at identifying it from body kit. on my sti5typeR i on average return about 18 per gallon, but obviously it all depends on the way you drive.

Axeman, you'd be dead by now if that was a real figure on the road. Summat's wrong, M8!

Is it your formula? Try: litres/5 = ? x 1.1 = gallons.

If that doesn't do the trick, amputate 4in from your right foot.

Question

Are you only seeing about 130 miles between visits to the pumps then?
I would guess that either your calculations are out, or a visit to your dealer is in order.

I thought I was bad with normally around 15mpg from my UK turbo, I have seen single figures, but only the once (thankfully)
Must get that Ecotek thing fitted soon

Axe,

blimey mate! Seems a bit harsh. I used to have an STI V5 TypeR V-ltd, and even on the short gearing it would do 30mpg on the motorway and about 18-23 elsewhere. Sounds like it's running way too rich. Might be worth a trip to the dealer to sort it out.

Matt

BTW, you tend to get better fuel economy running SUL as opposed to NUL.
