Friends funeral

If it's your mate and he passed( in an horrific way...drowning) shouldn't you be a tad upset?
I guess people deal with grief in different ways.
I know I would be wounded if a mate of mine passed God forbid.

Sounds like good ol' squaddie humour to me, when I die I want people to celebrate my life and not mourn my passing. ATEOTD it's all down to knowing the person who's died and respecting what they would've want

when i go i want the lads to get hammered in the platoon bar and have a laugh at all the stupid things we have done together, espcially on tour.life is for living and when people leave us we should celebrate being part of their life.

If there was a like button i woulda hit it !
Kinda thing id want done at my funeral if i pegged it , and totally agree the fact a funeral should be a celebration of life instead of a mourning "within reason"

I hope his family saw the funny side of your joke and you didn't cause more upset. The fact you had to explain yourself might indicate at their time of grief they may not have shared yours and your late friend humour.
Maybe im just old school, in these things. Always wear a dark suit and black tie ect.

Your right I didn't have to read it but did. I think I missunderstood you. If you were tight with him and had loads of inside jokes then it's a different story. So I take back anything that might have sounded insulting to you.
Just feeling a bit touchy that's all with what happened last week. Nearly smacked this guy and stupid gal at work for making a joke about cancer. Like I said touchy subject. She had the nerve to ask me if I was being serious.

Last funeral i went too was my old army boss, when the coffin went in always look on the bright side (Monty Python) was played. Everyone walked out with a smile on their face. Weirdest feeling ive had laughing at the end, but it was exactly what he wanted.

There is no funny side to death, why would you celebrate the loss of a loved one.
I guess being in the army you see a lot of death and perhaps you have no value for life.....each to their own. I for one value life and not just mine every man around me.......it's always upsetting to hear about the death of a person.

to say that people like myself have no value for life is a right **** thing to say,if anything we have more of a value for life as we see so much crap and loss in our jobs.
unlike civvies we have to make the choice to take life as well as save it.could you do that juggers???

I don't see the family of soldiers sharing the same attitude when arriving back in coffins. It only seems familiar above among you "squadies".
Anyway each to their own I personally think it's a sad state of affairs when people are walking out laughing out of a funeral however thats just my 2p's worth.

Yes, I actually tried to join the army when I was 17 however I was quite a naughty boy as a young lad and they knocked me back.

Who should have there way. The deceased or the loved ones ? I say the loved ones but thats just my view.

My dad died when I was 13, my sister died of breast cancer 7 years ago, and my mum died two Januarys ago. I`m not a squaddie , but there`s nothing wrong with a bit of black humour. It`s what has shaped this humour of this country; irony, pisstaking, being able to laugh at ourselves. You made me laugh Slab, though I can understand it not being funny for some at the funeral, as everyone has different ways of dealing with grief.
