Sorry I have got to ask, what is the problem with the cheap eBay Turbos?
Please dont rant at me, I just want to know from guys with experience or know of what the issues are.
Ive heard reports that they are chinese copies, but what makes them inferior?

Japan Listing
I dont want to compare, as I know that Harvery's 20G's are fantastic from folks comments on here, so please dont compare, but feedback would be nice
I have a little saying "If its too good to be true, then it generally is too good to be true!"

Rob some people run these copies without the issue 1 year, some just done one dyno pull and turbo has gone.
Problem of these turbos from reports is are not properly balanced(some said blades all ready touched the housing/cartridge),seals are not good, great threads are on Nasioc on these turbos or type to google.
Personally i've not tried these turbos on mine car,but someone here these 20G tried and is happy with out come...

As has already been said, not in balance properly. The castings are inferior and crack very quickly. The shafts are inferior and can snap. The turbine wheels are inferior and can throw blades as soon as they see any heat (quite often they are diesel shafts too which are not designed to take the sort of EGT's petrol engines see). The seals are inferior and deteriorate very quickly.
Don't touch them with a barge pole!

To fill in some blanks.
Alot of turbo copies come from china, the manufacturing standard isn't as high, the manufacturing tollerance are more relaxed and the materials are not always decent quality.
Turbo's work on air flow, so any disruption or change in airflow will affect how efficeint it is. Fluid dynmics (air flow falls into this) is all about the flow, the flow is effected by tiny or large deveations, these might not be visivble to the naked eye but are critical on how the air flows, a bump in the wrong place can disrupt the flow and cause eddies. This can mean the air is disrupted going through either the pipework or the turbo fan.
The airflow is absolutly critical to how the turbo performs, so if its disrupted you will get lower performance.
Poor quality materials can mean premature failure.
Might have gone a bit ott explaining that lol
p.s. yes i know my spelling sucks monkey ***** lol

A lad on a local Jap forum bought a TD06 ebay special for under £500. Bought new injectors and FMIC, then Bob Rawle remap - 410bhp on his classic. I think he has since sold the car so don't know about the longevity of this.

As far as I can see the only company that produces turbo of any decent quality on eBay is kinugawa I think it's spelt.
They do an 18g wheel and cover, dismantle your turbo and fit new bearing(loads guides on YouTube for td05) and get a turbo company to balance the turbine shaft with new compressor wheel.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think its far to say that I shall NOT be bothering with the eBay Jobbies, my suspicions have been confirmed. Im on the hunt for something to give me aroud the 400bhp marker, maybe something a little overkill (for the future). I just wish I had kept the GT30 now....boooooo
