Default Finally! My first Scooby!

At last.... I have a scooby!

If anyone missed my first thread, I was looking for one to buy for the Mrs...well, I found one!

Looked at a few which all seemed a bit **** and too many mods, I dont really want to mod it or increase bhp, so I think this one suits me fine.

I managed to find the first thread on a forum, back in 2009, of when the car was bought, bog standard, and followed it through to what the car is today, been maintained by an enthusiast which I think its a good thing...

Anyway... here she is!

Its a 2001 UK 2L, with PPP.
Has STi struts and anti roll bars, Forge BOV, 3" stainless decat, cristal clear headlights, bi-xenon and some other bits and bobs...
**** loads of receipts for anything and everything, even the receipt for a new gearbox back in March with confirmation from garage that it only had 42k when put in...

Drove her 140 miles home and it didnt miss a beat... and left the seller house with fuel gauge showing just a little over a quarter tank... got home and the reserve light wasnt even on!

First thing to do is figure out how to switch off that bbbeeeeeeeppp sound off the gauges everytime you start it!

Also, if anyone knows, when I turn the ignition on, the gauges do the check cycle, and stop, if I dont start the engine, the middle gauge, oil pressure, keeps beeping and flashing, but once I start the engine, all its fine, oil pressure sits at 7..

any ideas? could it be a fault of some kind on the connections?

Cheers!

The gauges have a warning setting, if they are Defis, set from the control box, wherever he put that. If you don't start the engine, the oil pressure is at zero, which the gauge reads, and sets off the warning. It's like the pressure warning light that comes on when you switch on the ignition and goes out when you start the engine, but more sofisticated.

DON'T switch the warning beep off. My Defis have just saved my engine! Literally.

BTW: it should only beep when you switch on TWO clicks on the ignition, ie: all other warning lights on the dash on too. If it does it at one click, he had them wired wrong.

If they are Defis, find the control box and the warnings are easy to set.

Oh.............and a good mod for YOU would be to lose the Forge BOV and go for a standard recirculating one, save fuel, save borewash, save the valves.

The gauges are Prosport, just like the ones in the link below

http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog...oducts_id=1538

the problem is the beep is frikin loud....would be nice to turn it down a bit...
yes it only goes on at two clicks, I think the wiring has been done properly as the gauges even keep its memory, read somewhere that bad wired gauges loose memory when ignition off.

Definately leaving her like it is, the classic is the only scooby model I like and this one is nice and clean, inside and out.., very pleased.

btw, just a quick one in case anyone knows off the top of their head, if not I'll look for it.
She has a Clifford G5 alarm, the bright blue light flashs really quick when armed, is there a way of changing the flash rate?

That's a nice one mate good choice.

I have the same gauges there is away to turn it off or adjust the setting as mine does not make the noise, you will need to locate the control box and adjust settings on it to suit, I bought the car with them fitted already so this was already done for me.

Nice JP still think that unmolested RB5 WR would have been better though
You need to do something about the decat, ppp'd cars det with those so you either need a remap or a ks3 or both, hence why I didn't like anything changed on a ppp'd car.

yes Tony, I did look at the other one, but one of the things I liked about this one was basically knowing (and seeing) the whole history since the car was bog standard.. and the seller sounded like a real enthusiast and can be seen the car has been taken care of..

yeh, what was changed was the exhaust.... what happens if I dont change it back?
I really dont fancy starting modding stuff at all.... specially when Im brand new to subarus! lol throw motorbikes and land rovers at me and I know it inside out.. but subarus?? Im completly lost!!

dont even know what you mean by a KS3.. or how much a remap would be!

anyone in the Newbury area that fancy taking me under their wing? bear in mind im a 32 year old fart! lol (18 in spirit though!)

Looks awesome mate!

Decat and induction kits can cause issues with knock. A remap usually costs around the £500 mark for an EcuTek but there are cheaper alternatives out there, it's worth checking with the previous owner in case he's already had it done.

A ks3 is a knock (det) detection device which is very good and recommended on modified cars, just google phormula ks3, not cheap but very good

just googled it.. around £300, that's not too bad, I dont mind spending money as long as its worth it and if its to keep everything mechanicaly safe, then its definately worth it in my books...

the car doesnt have any huge engine mods, has had this done:
HKS Induction Kit, 3" Decat SS straight exhaust, Forge BOV, and oil breather and catch tank..and some other bits? best bet is take some pics and put here I guess! lol

I dont think the previous owner had it done, he said it had the ecu done part of the prodrivepack....

Hey buddy, I had the same thing recently with my prosport guages funnily enough (my battery died which reset them - but yes IT IS friggin loud right!!!)

To turn off the beeping upon start up -

- hold all 3 silver buttons (on the face of them)
- turn engine on
- allow the guages to fully cycle through and start "reading"
- then turn off engine
- then release once they go dark!

That should do it fella

p.s. the oil pressure does flash at the beginning like you mentioned, nothing is broken so no need to worry.

hope this helps

thanks!! its reassuring to know all is good...and that the beep can be turned off.

However, I might look into a way of just making it a bit more quiet, but will try what you describe, thanks for that

Dont know how you do it fella - Its bloody Db levels must have some sort of detrimental effect to your ear drums in the long run surely!!??

I might start using the ear plugs I use when on the bike for everytime i start the car.. lol

far enough that it has to have a warning beep, but the dB levels on it are ridiculous...surely there must be a way of turning that down a tad...
