I am just trying to confirm that my mate has brought one of these rareish cars.

The car is extreamely basic, i.e. no electric windows, central locking, rear wiper, interior handles, skirt extensions on the bumber etc.

However the car does have intercooler water spray from the factory, aluminium bootlid + bonnet, extra injector in the intake that isnt present on a friends wrx, and last but no least it seems to have a very low ratio box on the car as when it hits the speed limited in fifth the rev counter is registering 6500rpm.

Could anyone on here please confirm that this is what he has purchased!!!!

The "Type RA" (Race Altered) is a lighter weight car with some options deleted and deemed the most suitable model in the range as the basis for a rally car. Generally they come without air conditioning, electric windows or radio, but these are available from the options list, and fitted to many road cars. The RA comes with a closed deck block, shorter gearing than standard (150mph at 8,000 rpm!), and rally style vent(s)/flap(s) on the roof.

I have one but all the goodies are on mine, ie. air con, electrics, alcantara seats, abs etc., no side skirts or rear wiper. The boots arent ally they are steel but very light steel, the bonnets are. I put a fridge magnet on the boot and it sticks (on mine . Gearing on mine is 20mph per 1000rpm in 5th. If its earlier (mines a 2000 model) is may be as low as 18mph per 1000 in 5th. 18mphx6500rpm/1000rpm gives you about 117mph so it sounds like he has the speed restrictor on 180kph by law in japan equates to about 112mph. You need a box of tricks to remove the restrictor costs less than 100 quid.

Becuase they are lightweight racing editions and short geared they are the fastest acelerating standard impreza available .

cheers

They did make a standard (non-STi) Type RA in 93. I had a red one.

Sounds like an RA he has. 19mph in 5th at 1000rpm should confirm or you could just check the chassis number
