Default Blyton Park New Circuit

Not sure if any of you have heard about the new circuit at Blyton Park near Gainsborough?

Basically, it is a new tarmac circuit built on an existing air field. Looks really quick and apparently has been designed in conjunction with John Barker from Evo magazine.

We have been lucky to secure two days there... both weekend days.

Saturday 18th June
and
Sunday 17th July.

A good clip of the circuit is here

http://www.donington-park.co.uk/index2.html

The price for each full day, open pit lane event is £125. Free instruction will be available together with free passengers and free additional drivers....if you are brave!

A massive attraction of the circuit is the vast run off and seemingly no issues with noise. How refreshing is that!!

Look forward to welcoming as many Subarus on the day as possible, but will be limiting the event to 50 attendees/

Thumbs up

Sounds interesting and saw the article in Evo about it.

The clip seems to be all donington related unless I'm mistaken? Below is the link for Barker's V8 Capri lapping it.

Looks fun if perhaps more of a sprint track as it looks quite narrow, unless impeccable etiquette is observed by slower cars?

I preferred it as a dirty rallycross circuit at £35 a car...

At that price I'd choose Cadwell !

Thing is though, at £125 it is not really comparable with Cadwell. Cadwell for a 60 car day, i.e not silly busy should be around £170.

Looks like a great track especially for beginners or for owners who are worried about hitting any walls.

But 50 car's on there might be a bit busy ?

The WYIOC only allowed 5/6 cars at a time on the old circuit for safety. We never managed to get more than 25 cars for a day.

It is a different track though now fella. You wouldnt want more than 6 before for the fear of stone chips.

50 is the maximum we will book on so will not be too busy.

You can get stone chips on the way there and back....

My point is that at £35 per car we never got to half the number you are quoting as a maximum. This was also not in a deep recession, as we are now.

This is surely even more of an advantage then! Less busy on track. The old track was a bumpy cut up rally cross circuit basically. The new one is not.

Comparing the Blyton of days gone by with the new Blyton is ridiculous.

I too remember paying £35 a day but I also remember....

* people driving the wrong way around the circuit
* so-called instructors parking up on blind corner exits
* so-called experts cutting-up/bullying novices and thinking it was funny
* being told to dial 999 if there was an accident because there were no facilities on site to deal with such things
* toilets that made the one in Trainspotting look pleasant

....I could go on!

Taking into account the new track and associated facilites the prices and terms being quoted in this thread by Mike, and other TDOs, are quite reasonable and I for one wish everyone invloved the best of luck with it all!

I too wish them well.... but maybe their "business model" should be to encourage people to try the new circuit, not push it into competition with "real" circuits.

How much fun is a drab flat tarmac airfield circuit anyway. I'm not interetsed in being quickest, I want to learn what my car is capable of in a relatively safe environment. The dirty old rallycross circuit was a challenge, the video looks like a drift-boys wet dream...

Ok then.

For our day on June 18th, we will offer 6 places to scoobynet members at £100. PM me to get more info. Basically though, you will need to book it with me directly as the on line price through our website is £125.
Alternatively, email me on michael@apextrackdays.co.uk. This will be on a first come first served basis.

I've done two full days here already and have booked another, I really like it. Track time is OK after the usual first rush. Track still needs some finishing around kerbs/track edges etc.. Smooth new tarmac has been done really well (congrats to Richard the owner who has put a lot of care into this) so no horrendous tyre wear and/or bumps unlike Elvington. Proper permanent track but generally a lot of run off of the airfield variety.

Track is quite "technical" with some well tricky/complex corners. Unusual in that it is ANTIclockwise so overtaking is on the right. Plenty of passing places providing the driver in front is using mirrors. I'd recommend giving it a try.

Well quick around Blyton. Might be going for bike engine next winter to reduce weight from 500 to 400 kg.

Hi Mike,

Car is a Silva Striker with Le Mans body kit, thin walled tube race chassis and properly set up with 75mm ride height. Current engine is 1.8 Zetec on 40 DCOEs and silly cams giving 165bhp, Sierra T9 box with Quaife C/R (2.1 1st) straight cut gearset, Escort live rear axle though you wouldn't know it. Possible (cost effective) plan is to fit Suzuki K4 engine, 160bhp but a whole lot lighter. Mad expensive plan is late Fireblade engine with 200bhp for still only 400 kg but might be a bit much for the Escort diff. Both have slipper clutches which is handy with sequential change.

Ex kit car race car used to be owned by Tim the ARDS instructor sometimes found at Javelin events. Can't miss it as it has a big 86 front and sides. Trailer it to track with a Focus as sadly I sold the Scoob last year to go this kit car route as its cheaper, quicker, and more fun.

Cheers, Diccy.

I lack the skill and precision for a race car myself.

Sounds brilliant. Cannot under estimate advantage of light weight in terms of handling and braking. Just got back from a day at Teesside Autodrome and a chap was in a crossflow westfield. Good spec, probably around 160bhp with quaife box etc. I could not believe how it handled round there. I was in my v8 westfield and thought I would pan it but really struggled to keep in touch. I was amazed at the grip. He was a really good peddler as well, and after going out with the instructor, Howard Hunt, who has done loads of days there, he was ballistic.

I was really suprised ( and somewhat pi@@ed off!!)

Yes you can't beat instruction. Frequently I find there is a leap of faith to do exactly what I'm told and even when my brain knows what to do my hands and feet often don't get the message.

Drove the circuit today, really enjoyed it. The only tight part IMO was one of the chicanes. This does not detract at all from the circuit though as there should be no overtaking at this point anyway. The rest of the circuit is a nice mix of quick flowing bends and nice technical bits.

I am confident people will enjoy it. If not, I will give them a 25% discount of another event booked through us.

We are limiting attendees to 50 so will get plenty of track time

Mike
