There is another way.
You can buy a blank key from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUBARU-2-Butto...item2eb0a54642
Less then 10 pounds. Get that cut only from a key cutters, so say another tenner.
But you'll need a transponder chip for it, get that from used Original key, off ebay. So say another 20 quid.
Put that transponder chip in your new key thats been cut. Then have Subaru or Harwoods (if thats a Subaru dealer, I don't know) program it to the ECU.
I done something simular on MY00, although I have a separate alarm fob that I can program myself. You would be able to also.

But this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUBARU-REMOTE-...item4158b27d76
Just that fob alone usually goes for 25 quid. And you can program that, very easily yourself.

If that's the case could you please point me in the direction of some instructions & info?
Cheers.

Yes.
If I was you, I'd get that bought. There are people bidding twice as much for the same thing:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Subaru-2-Butto...item3a651f9451
Programming instructions: https://www.scoobynet.com/security-1...a-key-fob.html
The transponder in the key will still need porgramming. Its possible the key cutters could do this too, by cloning your original key, but they might not be able to write to a original chip.

I think I have figured out how to program new key fobs but I need the pin code... which obviously I do not have
Does anyone know if this will work for MY04 UK WRX (taken from https://www.scoobynet.com/security-1...key-fob.html):

Are you aware that you can re-set your PIN?
Provided you have a working Radio Key and can disarm the system, carry out the following:
- Arm and then Disarm the system using a working Radio Key.
- Within 30 seconds of disarming, type into the keypad- *17856*92*wxyz*wxyz# (where wxyz is your new PIN code)
- Arm the system with the Radio Key
- You should now be able to disarm the system using the new PIN code
For anyone else reading this post, the sequences described inthis post will only work on the M-series range and Subaru systems. Earlier Sigma ranges such as the SG range can only be programmed with a dealer programmer and the latest S-series range requires the use of different numbers.

Total result. I scored a single button COJ12 key from eBay for £25 including postage. It arrived today and I did this procedure:
Using a working Radio Key:
- Arm and then Disarm the system using a working Radio Key.
- Within 30 seconds of disarming, type into the keypad- *17856*91*n# (where n is the total number of keys required to work the system)
- Press each Radio Key briefly in turn (the dash board LED will flash and the siren beep each time)
- Once the nth Radio Key has been programmed, you should be able to arm/disarm the system using any of the Radio Keys programmed.
It is essential that all Radio Keys required to operate the system are programmed together. Any keys not present during the programming sequence above will no longer operate the system.
You have to be quick on the key pad though. Took me a couple of attempts.. but I still completed the job in less than 2 minutes (1 hour labour Subaru??? Really??? )
Anyway, I now have 2 remote working keys... Wooooo!
I just need to get a key cut and swap the guts over.
Job done! £260 my ***!! **** you Subaru! This whole job is going to cost £35
Thanks to joey_turbo for giving me the ideas

okies good stuff.
it was the reason i stopped going any further with mine, as i thought id get the doors unlocked etc and turn the key for it not to turn over :/
i shall have a crack at sorting mine out again now
looking above from Joeys post was the sorta thing i had read that got me thinking it wouldnt work, the transponder stuff etc
if its anything like mine the keyblade is well stuck, or even moulded into the key, looks like a right **** to free up :/

I can get 2 button COJ12 blanks easy for a couple of quid but not 1 button. I sent some ebay messages asking if the Subaru key front would be inter changeable with the pattern one. No one seems to know but one chap said he'd refund me if it didn't swap over.
I'm going to sleep on it and keep on eBaying. Something will turn up. The programming (or should I say "electronic marrying of the car and used key") bit was most challenging in my mind... the rest is just mechanics.
I'm on the right path.

There are a few on eBay for £35 quid by the same seller. The one I found was misspelt and I talked him into ending early for me... he hadn't had a single bid.
Grade A Subaru had / have a single key and matching ignition barrel for £45. I might have gone for it if they had 2 keys... this purchase would have been kind of pointless in my situation.
Allegedly you can program up to 4 keys to one car. We just need a neat way of sorting the metal part of the key and we will be golden.

Silly question, but where is the transponder coded to? Is it the ECU?
I've replaced the ECU on my bugeye, and only have one key. I have a cat1 system fitted (along with other security measures) which covers the immob side of things, so aren't fussed if I lose the factory fitted option.
I only have one key, with no remote buttons for it - again, the cat1 alarm has remote open / lock etc, and need another key.
Is there a way of doing this, and not needing to code it?
Timpsons in town have said they can cut a key (they have nissan blanks I think, which are useable they said), and programme it if needed, but the coding is the expensive part, so if I can do away with it, that would be cool.
