hello,

thinking about having my 2003 wrx re-mapped, just not sure what mods to add, my wife drives the car alot and its only got standard 5 speed box, i dont want sh*t loads of bhp and then need a new gear box,

i've got in my garage, a vf35 turbo, air filter, decat pipe, pink injecters.

car has a large hypeflow top mount and a decat centre section and back box,

would it be safer to run just decat exhaust, air filter, hypeflow intercooler and standard td04 with a remap?

If you already have the vf35 and pinks is a good known mod path, newage box should take it, I would fit an sti uppipe and a ppp sportcat down pipe instead of decat and then get it mapped,

Perhaps an uprated fuel pump aswell but Is it true that WRX gear boxes can take a good pasting compared to an STI unit because they have much longer ratios and that the WRX box is 20kg lighter than an STI's?

so do you think my gearbox would hold out at 300bhp?

a mate of mine had a wrx 2001 bug running 280bhp he went throw two 5 speed boxes but he did drive like a ****.

is the vf35 alot better than the td04 that i have fitted at the moment?

I'd have thought you'd be needing forged pistons well before a stronger box. 400-450 maybe.

I would ignore all the advice above and give Duncan, Dynamix on here a call. All the top mappers will have mapped many cars very similar to yours & will know with certainty what will work best for you.

I've got what you've got on your car plus a few bits more and std box and clutch holds out well and I'm pushing 351.6 bhp through it for your mods

Gearbox will last if you dont drive like your mate Plenty of them running with the mods you are saying about with approx 320-330 bhp with no issues whatever.

Yes the VF35 is a decent turbo and will give you a lot more than the TD04.

Other mods you will need to go with the VF35:

- STi pink injectors
- STi TMIC (can be done on a wrx tmic but it will cost you power)
- Walbro 255 fuel pump
- decat up-pipe

Should be a great performer afterwards

Also have what you have ( except a vf34 rather than vf35) and the clutch and 'box are fine. Have found rollbars and brake upgrades to be worth it as well
