Have had my oil pressure gauge on a week now (fitted the same time as oil change) and it's been sat at 3bar tickover, 6bar @ 3k revs..

Then yesterday, the Mrs took it out to pick up the lad from nursery, (the car had been sat in the sun all day, temp on the dash was 26 degs).. she then sat waiting for a parking space for 2 minutes.. when the oil pressure dipped to 1bar on tickover, causing the warning alarm to go off.

Driven it this am and it's now 3bar running and 1.5bar on tickover (18 degs)

Hendry's put fully synthetic 5w/30w oil in it

Do we have to put a slightly thicker viscosity in during the hot summer?

ive heard never got below 10w on a subaru turbo engine

most specialists go with 10w50 summat like millers cfs off opie oils

I've just spoken to Hendry's and my local dealer, both say 5w/30w fully synthetic, no need to change over the summer.

They did offer to run their oil pressure gauge along side mine to see if my gauge is reading slightly low..

Seams it's most likely a faulty oil pressure sensor/sender...

Gauge now reading 0.1bar on tickover...which cannot be right because the car's oil warning light would be on too...

The gauges are R-Spec jobbies, so not deffi's by a long margin...

So I've unplugged it... lotta good that is!

Time to chase R-spec for a new sensor

Now I'm confused

The fitting kit supplied by Scoobyworld for their prosport gauges (same box, different name) say for the 2.5L you HAVE to use an adapter kit to install the sender in the OEM lug behind the alternator..do not use the sandwich plate method.

Any Ideas why?

That is the best place for it to go mate, as it's directly by the troublesome 3rd cylinder. Plus i think 10w-50 is the correct oil. Spoke to opie and JGM and they said that 10w-50 is basically the benchmark oil, JGM even said 15w-50 using motul. I have silkolene s 10w-50 and found less oil usage and better cold start (less noise on a really cold day)
Thsats my 2pence worth anyway.

Prosport gauges - the times I've heard about problems with them! Inc. my sons in his EVO and his GF in her Fiesta ST I've got good old fashioned direct reading Mocal gauges with never a problem.

yeah..really tempted just to go DEFI RACER and be done with it..but at £200 a dial it hurts

Throw gauge in the bin, in fact - chuck everything that Subaru didn't provide in the bin!

If it ain't there when you buy it - you don't need it!
