Are you getting freesat sound through the tv but no the suround sound? if thats right, then you need to connect the freesat box direct to the surround sound amp/dvd player using a digital optical lead. ( i think )

I think the optical connector is needed for dolby digital 5.1 or digital 2.0 as on ITV HD
I have mine connected from Optical out on the freesat box to optical in on the Sony surround amp - the surround sound is only transmitted on BBC HD on some programmes... others are transmitted in normal 48khz stereo sound... so to summarise
BBC HD - some programmes in 5.1 Surround - others in Digital 2.0
ITV HD - Digital 2.0 - no surround sound
All other channels in 48khz stereo sound
hope this is of some help
Andy

Odds are that the DVD player SCART will be output only and even if not will be stereo only. It is also very unlikely that your TV can output decoded audio from the HDMI
The AUX inputs to the DVD will be analogue stereo, if the freeview box has analogue audio out then you could connect the L and R channels to one of those inputs.
Also check that one of these inputs is not actually electrical digital in, the freeview box almost certainly has an electrical digital output if it has an optical one
Hope that helps
