Anything from 23rd March 2006 onwards is on the higher tax bracket.

My 06 plate STI with PPP was registered on the 3rd March 06 - I paid £215 for 12 months tax at the start of Jan.

Is this purely down to emissions? or is the 4x4 bit involved aswell??

As I said, anything registered before 23 March 2006 (regardless of it's emissions) is on the earlier tax banding system. Anything registered after this date was done on the new emissions tax bandings.

Hence the reason my Hawkeye STI registered on 3rd March 06 was in the cheaper tax bandings but other people with 56 and 07 Hawkeye's were in the higher emission based tax bandings.

Was just wondering how they are calculating these increases. Just because a car's drivetrain moves all four wheels means it's a gas guzzling monster like a hummer or X5?! What about Fiat Panda's? They are 4x4s!!

An early Hawkeye STI will get you the same result - just remember to double check when it was registered before you buy anything

its amazing and the government wonder why new car sales are low there is no incentive to buy new or nearly new now tax is so high i cant see the point in spending 400 a year on road tax unless you had bought your pride and joy before it was bumped up. 400 road tax is only 200 less than my insurance when you put it in prospective!

To put this into perspective.

A new Boxster 2.9 PDK is below the £400 CO2 bracket of post 23 March 2006 Scoobs.

Subaru Technology is not cutting it with regards to the Green Lobby.

A new S3 Quattro 265ps is only 198 CO2 so is much cheaper than a Standard UK STi post 23 March 2006
