Hello all, just signed up and thought I would say hello. I dont own a Subaru yet but im looking at buying one soon. My budget is only small but ive a keen eye for a bargain so im hoping for a decent car ideally a 1999/2000 UK spec Impreza turbo standard or with a few sensible mods. Any advice on anything I should look out for when viewing would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Jay.

welcome mate

sensible advise , dont buy the first one you see , there are many ****ters out there , a standard car unmolested is probably your best bet then you have a blank canvas to which you add your own mods and touches

Look at loads - there are plenty out there, and stick with your 99/00 idea. So much easier to remap than earlier models.

Go for a Import STI, half the tuning work has been done already

Thanks for the replies and advice guys, will take it all on board. I know absolutely nothing about Imprezas being a Ford RS guy for many years but just fancied a change and as a good mate of mine has got a bug eye wrx which seems a good quick reliable car so I thought I would give one a go for myself. I did not know about the remapping being easier on 1999 onwards cars so thanks for that as although I dont chase big power figures a remap would probably be done at some stage. Im not looking into an import yet for insurance purposes as I run a traders policy and dont think it covers them although this will be looked into. I also would like as new as possible in classic shape and there is a bit of a price difference between UK spec and STI.

Should I look out for anything bodywise, rust etc? Any problems underneath the car to look out for? What are they like for finding replacement trim for a worn drivers seat for example? Any other advise is always welcome.

Cheers, Jay.
