Default Help a Subaru noob please!

Hi guys,

Looking to purchase my first Impreza this week, and have been in talks with a chap who lives locally. His car is stunning but I'm very new to Subaru's and their model types.

Searches on google seem's to just bring up contradictions and more complications.

When asked if his car was a WRX or STI the seller says his car is a 'uk 300', I took the reg number to check insurance quotes, and the model on the insurance site comes back as 'WRX SL'.

The seller also mentioned the car is running at 285bhp, does this fit the above model?
The car is a 2005 model also.

I apologise if I'm asking really tedious noob questions, so feel free to point me at a FAQ thread or something which will help me out, but searches didn't turn up much for me.

Thanks in advance.

Something not right there as the UK300 was a limited edition in 2001 of the bug eye shape.

If his is a 2005 it cannot be a UK300.

Ok, no expert but I think the Uk300 was a limited edition based on the WRX SL and came standard with the prodrive pack (ppp) which puts the bhp upto around the number quoted along with a few other goodies, insurance databases etc struggle to hold all the ltd edition models so most register it as close as they can get, which in the case of the 300 is a WRX SL.

Its not a STI and will have WRX brakes instead of Bembo's etc.

Sure a uk300 owner will be along shortly with a full spec!

Nice car though, a guy round my way has one and looks sweet!

Are you 100% its a 2005?

Thanks for the info guys,

Yes he says its a 2005 model, and it does not look like the above posted picture.

it has this style body, except the car is in blue. Seller says it has the pro-drive exhaust on it.

Thanks for the help guys, its most appreciated.

hmm, perghaps he is trying to pass it off as something it is not or he just likes confusing people.

If its based on a WRX SL, the SL stands for sunroof and leather so check if it has those first.

If it had the prodrive pack it will come with a certificate indicating this and the exhaust should look like this:

Does sound a little dodgy and with the volume that are about you may be better looking for a different one, check out the for sale section.

Guys,

If it is indeed an Impreza WRX 300, with tein suspension all round, and the pro-drive exhaust posted above by Arronb, 40k miles, 2 previous owners, 2005 plate and full service history in very good condition.

Can anyone guestimate a price for me? I cant really find any autotraders etc which I could relate it too!

Thanks a bunch

Special Edition UK 300 Impreza.

As the name suggests - only 300 were made.

Performance wise, it came with a free Prodrive Performance Pack (PPP) as standard.

This gives it an extra 40bhp over standard. 2.0 Litre Engine.

Only comes in World Rally Blue - normally they have gold alloys as standard but may come with official ProDrive silver ones.

Also comes with a RAC Trackstar device - make sure you get all the details of that and transfer it to you.

Pricewise? About £8500 Private? £9500 Franchised Dealer? Up to you what it is worth to you, however.

Mike that's the exact one, thanks a bunch mate, makes me very happy!

SunnySideUp, thanks for that, private £8500, is exactly what the seller wanted before I started haggling, so I managed to get him down a bit! good guestimate!

Glad things are adding up, as I was very very confused at the start of this!

Subaru is confusing! There are so many different models, special editions different verions it's unreal.

I think the evo boys got the right idea. Evo1 Evo2 Evo3........

Or is that because they can't count past ten?

Goodness knows how they deal with Roman numerals then, I was looking at them on piston heads and had to have a Roman numeral table open at the same time. Silly naming scheme.

One other thing, the Tein suspension would have been fitted by someone at some point as they don't come as standard.

Yes I kind of gathered that, but its a good thing I thought. Although after going for a test drive with him tonight, I had forgotten how much stiffer Teins can be!

Make sure your Dentistry Plan is up-to-date as you will be having your fillings knocked out!

How long has the current owner had the car? I ask because the novelty of a fast car with rock hard suspension fades very rapidly in real world driving ..... so many just simply cannot get on with it. A lot has to be said for a normal UK Impreza designed for everyday living - just a thought for you.
