Default Remap Advice?

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice about remapping my car? In short: I have a completely standard (apart from vortex afterburner backbox, sti6 spoiler, p1 splitter, skirts etc) MY99 UK Turbo, I was going to wait until July '10 (when i'm another year older and get another years no-claims) to get a remap, like a proper one - 300bhp+.

I have now decided that I'd like to get one a bit sooner, but maybe just a 'half-way' remap around 275bhp, then the rest next year. I am unsure of which route to go down and which parts I should buy.

I'm 22, been driving 18 months, 1 years no claims and managed to get insured through flux direct for £1600 all mods declared, which I thought was a very fair price. So I want to do the engine mods without pushing my premium up too much.

What do you think would be the most sensible amount of power to aim for in order to keep my premium down?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

just a decat and a better filter would probably see you close to 260-270
if you want more then bigger turbo vf34 or vf35 seem to be what most go for, fuel pump and a 3 port will get you over 300
not sure what extra you would pay on insurance tho

may need at least yellow injectors if you car hasnt already got them

I would spend the money on brakes and suspension before having the car mapped, the brakes really do suck on these cars (oh and your insurance will take a big leap up after a remap!)

As above. Brakes need sorting before you up the power, also consider uprating the rear ARB and droplinks and get the geometry properly setup while you're at it.

I am with the above! do the brakes and suspension first as i have just had a bump where i struggled to get the car to stop and clouted my mates subaru up the **** and my suspension felt like i was getting bump steer and lift and torque steer....i learnt my lesson the hard way by having to get my bumper and bonnet repaired at nearly £500 lucky it was only minor dents but had i gone for more power without sorting the brakes and suspension first the damage would have been more severe due to it being even harder to stop.....and i agree the brakes on these cars are crap considering their power.....go for poly bushes, anti lift kit, suspension geometry set up and better brakes it will feel like a new car ask any modifier they will always recommend brakes and suspension first.

Thanks very much for the replies. I think the brakes suspension upgrade sounds like an idea! I was thinking grooved discs and red stuff pads, then tein coilovers with edfc?

Or were you guys thinking more of a 6 pot upgrade? (some of those prices bring a tear to my eye)

Just a decent 4 pot AP upgrade will do better than grooved discs and crappy ebc pads.

just put newage brembos on good cost effective upgrade, size makes all the difference and if carefully done by selling your old stuff could cost no more than a good grooved disc and pad combo, and will out perform it every time.

Brembo's are a good upgrade but they cost about 600 quid for a 2nd hand set, for 900 quid your getting a brand new set of godspeed AP 4 pots and ds2500 pads and discs, plus the brembo's dont fit behind most alloys, so if you dont have alloy's they fit behind, thats another 3-400 quid for those
