Question

Hello all, first post here.

I'd like to know if there is any aftermarket support for the bottom-feeder Justy. No, I'm not trying to be funny. No flames, please.

Just so you know, I'm not out to rice the car out or anything. I actually wanted to rally it some day (again, no flames), but for now I just want the damn thing to be "not slow." It's a pretty fun little car.

And I'm no idiot. I realize that this car is no performance platform. I have other cars for that (86 and 91 RX-7, 1991 Galant VR4).

Probably for good reason, I have had no luck with searching on the Net. I figured if anyone would know, someone here would.

Car is an 88 Justy GL (4wd), 1.2 3-cyl carb. I thought about swapping a 91-up EFI motor in it (I like the earlier body style better), but doubt it's really worth the effort.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Come on, nobody makes anything for this car?

It wouldn't really surprise me, unfortunately.

Can't help you much Ren I'm afraid.

I have seen Justy's rallying on TV though, so someone, somewhere must make some performance gear for them.

Either that or they're using uprated equipment from their bigger cousins the Imprezas and Legacys.

Welcome to Scoobynet by the way!

I have a vague recollection that Subaru used the Suzuki Swift as the basis for its Justy. As such, there is a chance (a spectacularly slim chance, it must be said!) that you might be able to shoehorn a Suzuki Swift motor onto the mounts. 1.3 4cyl free revving 16-valve, 101 bhp before mods (which are available), though the mating of this to the transmission will be the worst headache.

Failing that, major surgery is the only other course.

Oops, I may have to eat my words about those transmission headaches....

Hey, thanks for the info!! I was beginning to think no one ANYWHERE had any ideas about the car. I knew at least one of my friends had seen a Justy team in the US, but he wasn't sure who it was.

Hmm, the 4-cyl swap seems like an idea, but I think that might put me in an unfavorable class. Then again, maybe not, since the 87 Honda CRX i just bought is still in SCCA Group 2 after its 1.6L Acura engine/tranny transplant. I'm not sure it would work in the 1st generation Justy, though, as the frame rails are pretty close together in the engine bay. There doesn't seem to be enough room. Worth looking into, though.

Thanks,

Ren
