1. Up to the test centre - just put your normal one on the car that day.
2. I'm pretty sure they fail legality on the British Standard for reflectiveness, but pass on the good looks.
3. Self adhesive number plates

Stick on ones are fine as long as the lettering meets legal requirement, I was told that by a traffic cop when I got pulled for having a small number plate, he even informed me that because I have an import I can have a plate with smaller lettering (60mm I think)

he also told me that the first scoob Humberside police had, had a stick on plate on the bonnet.

You can only have one with smaller lettering if your non-EU (i.e. JDM) import cannot accommodate a UK/EU size number plate and lettering. Thankfully it's all so confusing the only real thing the police fix on is the lettering font and spacing) probably so the ANPR cameras work.

I have a stick on number plate on my bonnet. Its has the correct size letters and is reflective. It also passed its MOT with it.

It's also 'plate manufacture' date not the car IIRC. All new plates manufactured after 10/2001 (I think it was) have to meet requirements that would mean stick ons aren't legal even if you can get away with them sometimes.

Go to the DVLA website and read the guidelines, it's pretty straight forward just not the answer we want.
