Interesting comments on BBC Website re. us!
"Rally organisers are noticing a new breed. They call them yobs and yuppies.
Yobs turn up at the special stage at 0745 GMT with a can of lager in hand - and another 12 in the cool box - and get drunk and belligerent.
Thumped
The yuppies turn up in their rally-replica Subaru WRXs and Mitsubishi Evos but aren't prepared to be told what to do, where to stand, or how to behave".
Charming!

Unfortunately I can believe it.
There was a time when the large majority of Scooby owners were either directly involved / active in motorsport or definite enthusiasts.
These days, Scoobs are a lot more common, the older ones relatively cheap and you'll starting to get the City kids buying them for pose value, discovering something called "Rallying" and popping down to the country at the weekend with their muppet mates.
And of course everyone is an expert when it comes to where to stand - was marshalling a stage not so long ago and middle aged bloke turns up with a mate and a couple of kids, proceeds to stand withing a couple of foot or so of the track (outside of a fast left-hander). After watching them for a few minutes to see if they were going to show some signs of inteligence and move, I gently pointed out the speed of the cars and how it could be safer standing futher back. Chap nodded and said they'ed move back when cars came through.... did they... oh no...
What annoys me is not that the stupid c*$t might get hurt if a car went off, but rather his kids would and the driver in the car who'd have to live with it...
Morons....
(calmed down now.....)

p.s before I get flamed, I'm not suggesting all current Scooby owners don't know how to behave, but there is a worryingly increasing number.

Rum* & Theo - classic examples of 'yuppies'

Where does that leave us? We go to rallies in our scoob (with a couple of stickers on it) but drink coffee not lager, from a thermos - so are we yoppies? yubbies?

Oh dear, I'm a 'City Kid', must remember to act like an ar$e at the next rally I attend!
Cant wait to lose my city job, cos then I might be an enthusiast, rather than a poser!

I'm not a City Kid, but then I drive an older 'Cheaper' Scoob so I must be. I also went down to Rallye Sunseeker with my Muppet Mates. But at least there Scoob's were newer, so they may be Muppets and not Muppet City Kids......
PS I drive an older Scoob because :
A. With a 14month son, a wife looking after him and a single income, it's all we can afford (without 'CREDIT')
B. A friends Scoob which cost twice the price is only very marginally better i.e the reg is newer.
Just cause you run a 'New' car doesn't make someone any better than the next guy......

i am only new to scoob ownership and i had to buy an older one as i couldnt afford a new one, i dont want to be deemed as a city kid but i am only 22 and the insurance is alot but i do like the car alot and as soon as i sort out my loans etc i would like to own a newer one but i have noticed alot more young people driving them but i would never dream of mistreating my scoob in any way!
Oh dear... seem to have been misunderstood a bit.... when I said "older ones relatively cheap and you'll starting to get the City kids " I wasn't implying if you've got an old one AND you're a city kid.... it was meant to be an either/or statement.
I wasn't implying there's anything "wrong" with owning on older or a newer car it was just a general comment pointing out that there are more Scoobs around these days and hence ownership is not so elitest (sp?) anymore...
