Understand what you are saying but if we don't try the government will keep on smacking us in the face. Other countries will have a riot if they tried this, yet we take the defeatist option.

If we don't speak up then they will not listen

I've signed. As above everything I have signed has been followed by an email to say 'thanks for signing but we're going to do what we like anyway'. Worth speaking up though!

National speed limit area's are usually littered with the '40 everywhere' crew anyway, I'll sign the pettition that makes these t1ts drive at least 50

The better option is to get a load of adhesive stickers the exact specs of the signs and once they've changed them put your sticker on making it back to the original limit. Someone has already switched signs and done this and the council reckoned it would cost them £5000 to change it all back, WTF

Bit of a misunderstanding there somewhere? The 50 limit is proposed for single carriageway roads which, at the moment, have a national speed limit of 60mph unless marked otherwise.

Not proposed mate ,already bloody implimented here. 26 mile journey from work Gaydon landrover home to Rugby WAY 1 -down the old fosse way past princthorpe into RUGBY from 60 to 50 all the way and with 2 new GATSO 'S put up!!
WAY 2 - from GAYDON 28 miles down through SOUTHAM-DUNCHURCH into RUGBY yep you guessed it 50 all the bloody way even if i go through LEAMINGTON-SPA the majority of the journey is 50.
How the hell did they manage to do this and it all happend within a fortnight!!
All of a sudden the prospect of owning my scooby or any fast/capable car is no longer fun.
they should not tarnish everyone with the same lack of driving ability, myself Advanced driver trained class1/defensive driving and high speed driving all through our work as so many others have done and yet we are not trusted to drive safe but swiftly when the time/conditions allow.
We now live in a complete nanny state

There are many many roads out there that are nsl and it would be impossible to do 60 mph along them. Anyone with half a brain knows this and drive according to the circumstance. Putting up a lower limit just adds cost and displays a 'target' to be reached, even if it is dangerous to do so. Anyone who bombs around in a nsl where it is not safe to do so won't be detered by a lower limit.

I wouldn't have any speed limits at all apart from urban settings, but have much harsher penalties for those commiting accidents. People have to learn to drive to the conditions not to a designated limit set by questionable motives.

Not giving my name to the Thought Police on this one...

Agree with Scoobynutta, drive as conditions allow. My journey to work now can't legally exceed 40, although you wouldn't want to with the state the roads are in. Used to be NSL and nice smooth tarmac.

In fact if a few more of the 50 supporting head-in-the-sand, 'I always stick to the speed limit' types get done then good. The more opposition to cash-raising speed limits, we might see some attention paid to real road safety measures.

Because next it'll be 40, then a 30. And it won't reduce traffic accidents, it may even lead to more accidents. Looking at speedos and looking for cameras etc distract from looking at what you're supposed to be looking at when driving, ie the road and associated hazards.

If you do 80 on a motorway as it stands now, your still not the fastest car on the road, just keeping up with traffic!
