Default Some Help For A Newbie

Hi ppl,

Currently on the look out for a Subaru WRX Sti with a budget of around £10,000 ( i'd imagine a 52/53 reg for my budget)

I have tried looking for a buying guide as I would like to know what are the tell tale signs to look out for?

Probably looking to trade in my current car, a Mondeo ST220 as it was a stop gap after my last car a Focus RS.

Any help or advice would be appreciated

Welcome

We have no real buying guide, but a few things to look out for on the new age STI's (as we call them) are knockiing rear suspension (common unless they have had the uprated struts fitted), usual signs of abuse, wheel bearings can suffer under heavy brake useage (abuse again) crashed/repaired, smoking turbo's, clutches are expensive so check they are not too bad, gearboxes are strong but they can still suffer, they should be easy to engage, warm and cold, ensure the servicing has been carried out on time and the correct service has been done (all the usual car bits really, they didnt suffer from that much apart for the rear struts).

Tony

ime also new to buying a subaru. But i have just found a v nice sti on a 04 with 25000 and to look at it you would think it has just come out of the showroom. Clean isnt the word. And i have paid £10100. just keep looking and take your time. THERE IS A LOT OF SH*T OUT THERE. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum.
With 10k you should be looking at a 05/06 car 03s can be had for around 7-8k at the moment
You could probably find a WR1 for that money too

Oh lovely it appears I have under estimated the prices slightly then. Really do need to trade the St220 in against one so Hopefully dealers will be sensible with prices, i know how tough the market is at the moment.

It is worth holding out for a PPP Sti?

No need to buy anything which isn't right these days - buy the best and buy an un-modified one ..... avoid anything which is cheap and anything with loads of owners and a less than perfect Service History.

These cars are pretty bullet proof, if not messed about with - buy a standard UK car with One Owner and you will not go wrong.
