Default Is it best to remap to UK fuel?

Morning All,

I am the first owner of a JDM MY97 Ver3 Impreza WRX STI since it was imported November 2007. I have run it on V-Power/Tesco 99 petrol (with no additives) since purchase.

I was wondering if any of the ECU tuning gurus could best advise me?

To best protect my engine, is the best option to get a new ECU (i.e. Apexi Power FC) and a UK fuel remap along with alterations for modifications I have?

I confess I don't know much about ECU re-mapping and the advantages/disadvantages of getting it done but I do know that I don't want to have to rebuild my engine due to the fuel over here.

Any help and advice is much appreciated.
Thanks
Matt

If modding its defo best to remap, as its a MY97 then aftermarket is the only option.

I've run a standard MY97 STI 3 on nothing but V-Power since it was imported in March 2007 with no problems. But as above, if modding....

Hi Matt, view my profile i have the same car as you, i,d defo get it mapped for our fuel so to speak and if you,re modding the obviously it,ll require a map not just for fuel issues but to get the best from your mods.

My car is running a Motec ECU which i was lucky enough to have on the car when i purchased it, there,s other ECU`s you could look at, SIMTEK, Autronic, APEXI etc etc....

The older Scoobs (original ones) seem to be more prone to engine damage when run on the UKs naff fuel. Best get a remap just to be safe IMHO, I would.

BTW I ran a standard STi V back in 2003 & it went pop.

TX.

Autronic provides Anti-lag too, your loooking @ around £1200-1400 for these ECUs though..

Ecutek map can be done and you could ask your mapper to provide pops & bangs whislt mapping the car, that,s what i think you,re after..

I dont think the V3 sti was ever mapped for 100ron fuel , as it wasnt available in japan at that time, That would suggest uk fuel (Shell or tesco) would be on a par with what the car was designed for.

Mapping will always be best though as it will set up for your car rather than generic. ESL are/have developed a daughter board that will be a cheaper option to a replacement ECU, and will do all you require.

Lol, yeah I reckon I will.
Just need some more information about it.
Looked on JollyGreenMonster.co.uk and noticed he was in the South East....wondered if they have any advice for me as I would most likely get the work done by them..??
