well Optimax doesn't exist any more and was replaced by V power (if you're in the UK) and there is nothing wrong with V power.
If your car is standard then the 99 ron fuels (tesco and V power) should be fine without octane booster

V-Power took over from Optimax. V-Power is 99 RON and is every bit as good as Tesco 99. Either fuel should be fine for your car(I'd lean towards V-Power), providing you've not gone crazy with the mods.

If you're worried, NF is the best Octane Booster widely available.

BP Ultimate is unlikely to be much use to a JDM STI IV (its only the odd New Age car that likes it). Id get a KnockLink or similar and see what knocks and what doesnt. You may be alright using 99RON fuel: Id opt for Shell as whilst its ioctane rating is similar to Tescos, it has a higher calorific value.

generally most people say BP Ultimate is rubbish in scoobs, and to avoid it. I've used it once, and didn't really notice too much of a problem but hey, i'm willing to follow the masses on this one

VPower or Tesco 99 ron is all you'll ever need

Every petrol thread on here has someone saying avoid BP Ultimate. General consensus seems to be Tesco 99 or V Power. I prefer Tesco 99 cos it's cheaper round our way and the car seems to perform better on it, but it really is hoarses for coarses as other scoobynetters will swear by V Power. I've never used octane boost but I have read it's worth keeping some in the car just in case you find yourself in a situation where you can only fill up on 95 RON unleaded.

guess ill buy some next time im in town then.

does the ron rating vary between stations?

this all good info

This is my first performance car. Will you actually feel a difference between the fuels? Im sure i could in my focus, but thats probably more wish there was because of the higher price.

Shell fuel loses its octane over time. Id only buy from a station that turns over a reasonable amount of V-Power.

I see what you're saying, but how can you tell? All you can do it use the busier Shell garages, but you never know how much VPower they're selling compared to normal unleaded....

I've used most of the avaliable SULs in my 93wrx and have found the power difference to be minor BUT with the smoothness of the drive through the rev range is something i've noticed.
