Spoke to a mate who has been in the audience and apparently, they do indeed arrange the front row to put the more aesthetically pleasing members of the audience closer to the camera.

I'm not sure how you politely tell someone: "sorry mate, you're gonna have to make way for the girl with cracking norks"
