I have a Ninja Back box ( like the one in the picture)

Now my centre section looks like this, which I believe has a resonater.

So the question is, if I swapped my centre section as it is for the centre section in the first picture (which has a silencer) would it be any louder ? Or does the silencer and the resonator do essentially the same thing?

hope that helps....

I have an Afterburner backbox, which I guess is similar in sound to the Ninja. I fitted an Afterburner deresonated centre pipe a few months ago - it definitely sounds louder now, a deeper growl. I don't think it made a big difference though.

As a rule of thumb the closer you get to a straight through pipe the louder it gets. The quieter back boxes tend to have larger boxes where as something like the RCMS Team Ice Box is as close as you can get to a straight pipe
Same would apply to the Silencer/resonator I guess the greater the capacity the less noise.

Scoobyparts Ltd TORNADO REAR DE-CAT PIPE (CLASSIC)
with that being a silencer and
Scoobyparts Ltd MAGNEX RESONATED REAR DE-CAT PIPE
and this being a resonator.
I dont mind so much, I just want to know if I can swap mine out for a throtty noise without being too noisy and boomy on motorway journeys

A resonator is designed to remove noise from a limited range of frequencies, as stated to reduce noise in the car, but a back box can also do this my TSL jap-style bb was horribly boomy on the motorway at the limit....
Whereas my TSL Group N bb is nice and throaty, but not too loud if driven normally, or on the motorway.

P.S. So a bit louder, but not always in a good way, it's a bit anti-PC to have a really loud exhaust IMHO LOL

I hear you
(well not literally, but I guess I could )
Girlfriends scoob sounds better than mine, but then hers is too noisy on motorways, whereas mine is pretty quiet and you can talk to people on the phone etc without shouting in the car.
Tricky one....I dont give a flying **** about being PC and all that tosh. I am far too old to be sensible and courteous
