hi every one, i new here not sure if i come to the right place, so sorry if i have not.

any ways i 25 thinking abt getting a pre 1999 wrx, just really wanted to know what are they like to fuel and what the parts etc like to buy on them, also is they any think i got to watch out for when buying one, i looking at getting an import, parts ok on these.. or uk spec better.

Do you mean fuel consumption if so pretty poor when driving it like it should be but if sensible i manage to eek out about 27-30mpg on a motorway run.

Imports are normally better spec than the equivalent UK car,higher insurance group though (17 UK compared to 20 for an import).

Things to look out for are bull**** bhp figures but as you've said pre 99 that covers a whole lot of imprezas and not all have the same quirks or problems.

As above mpg is poor, parts are expensive when thongs go wrong. But on the up side if you get a well looked after one it will be very reliable.

I'd buy off a scoobynet member or similar because people on here are enthusiasts and generally look after their cars very well.
Avoid imports that have been passed around to many owners and do not have good service history.

I used to get about 30mpg on motorway on steady run when car was standard but now TBO if you are the kind of person that worries about fuel i would think hard before you buy a scoob cos fuel/parts are not cheap, but im sure you will soon forget this once you start driving one They are so much fun but heavy on the wallet if driven hard.
Hope you get what you want, my choice would be an import but make sure its a good one and have AA inspection done on one as this could save you money GOOD LUCK.

i found i really nice ones. its wrx on an n reg with abt 60000 miles on the clock, and its £4995 and its an import and not registered yet. its a saloon, do you think the milage is to high for the price, are they things i must look out for,

Hi do you know if its a V2 or V3? I think its over priced. Very good STI's can be had for that sort of money if you can insure one.

Agree with rbaz, its over priced. No disrespect intended but judging by how much you know just now, you should probs just try and find out more about them before buying. Spend some time on here and you will learn alot. The last thing you want to do is rush into buying the first car that comes along just because you've maybe been wanting one for a while.

If you get a good scoob you wont regret it, but buy a bad one and you will be miserable . To every mint import theres probs about 4 sh*tters.

So to sum up, just take you're time finding the right one mate

Way too much. N reg means 13 years old. Only a total twit will pay £5k for a car that cost £20k 13 years ago. A far better solution would be to read some of the threads and For Sale adverts of Scoobynet members who are looking to sell up. Do your homework and you'll get a better car for less money.

And FWIW unless you are going to do very low miles in this car I don't think you can afford it. A £5k Impreza will cost you 3 times as much to run as say a 2 yr old Ford Fiesta. If you are not sure of the true running costs then tell me your age, driving record and annual mileage and I'll work it out for you. You won't like my answer though.

OK here we go. Only you know your insurance cost, but at that age you must be looking at £750 fully comp minimum. 10,000 miles @25mpg and £5/gallon = £2,000. Road tax = £200ish. You'll probably need a new set of tyres in the first year given the current ones won't be new so that'll be £400. One service from someone who knows what they are doing will be £200. So totting all that up comes to £3550 and that is based on a good insurance quote and absolutely nothing going wrong with your 13 year old 4wd turbo import. So over 3 years it is going to cost you twice as much to run it as it costs to buy it. Take a look at your current account and see how healthy it looks when you take this money out of it. Maybe not too rosy?

Chocolate_o_brian has pmed you. His car looks like as safe a bet as you are going to find at this price. If you can live with the running costs (be realistic before you embark on this mission) then give his car some thought. Personally I think you'd be better with a nice hot hatch, but no one listens to me on this forum so you'll be in good company if you go for the Scoob.
