How much power do you want? over 300bhp then yes you will need the TD05. Under 300bhp then stick with what you already have and go for other things like remap, intercooler etc.

You cant just bolt on a TD05 and go. You will need a remap or it will perform worse then the TD04 and probably cause more damage, so for the price of the turbo and remap.. just spend the £800 or so on more interesting things other than just pure power.

If you have that kind of dosh in yer wallet then go for it, but its only a car mate. Hope ive helped.

i dont want to go silly on power
280 would be fine
i have picked up some parts on the cheap from mates
i have a UK TURBO MY00
standard at present but due to have fitted this week
3 inch centre decat
3 inch backbox
sti top mount duel core intercooler
bailey dump valve
polished knife edge throttle body
apexi induction kit with heat shield
should i just go fro a remap now and see what i can get

The TD04 will manage 280bhp. It will be at the top of its range though. If you are gonna tune more in the future then fit the TD05. IMO stick with what you have and have it mapped, you'll be very pleased.

A 280 Impreza on a TD04 is more than enough for the road. Seriously, you will be very pleased. A remap will make a huge difference in how it drives.

youd be better with a 2.5 exhaust for that sort of power

sounds like you got some nice upgrades planned..sounds cool but are sure about the induction kit..sticking to a k&n or green panel filter would be a cool option too..

im running at 278 b.h.p, see "my scooby" for my upgrades. Seriously the re-map made a big difference and it more than holds its own against other modded motors

How does the available power make a difference to driving it, really? My wife is fine driving our WRX, and it's not standard any more... Just because you have a bit more oomph it doesn't mean you have to drive like you stole it, IMO

I'd say go for the TD05 and join us saddo's with empty wallets

Hmm, I agree... I've around 330 in my classic STi (TD05 etc + remap) & have found myself wondering what it'd be like with more....

You've go to remember in most cases a TD05 will have a bit more lag than the TD04.....

There are so many performance parts around that really, there's no one "best way". Every shop will have their preferred or tried and tested packages. It's what works for them. Don't sweat it if your car is a little different.

IMO you could get a DECAT or Sportcat downpipe (depending on how legal you'd like it). Then get a remap. I'd be a little wary of the 3" exhaust too. Unless you and your wife both like the tone and likely "NOISE!!!!" of it, you might end up disagreeing.

TD04 is the smallest of the turbos on Imprezas.

280bhp is pushing it on a TD04 and if you fit a TD05 and plump for 300bhp you will have a much wider power band and faster car (by quite some margin) imho.
