Preparations for Donington
#1
Just wondering if any of the seasoned track dayers have any suggestions on what to do before Dono on Saturday.
On Friday I'll be checking the oil/water and tyre pressures (are standard road pressures ok on track?) and I'll probably wash the car too!
Brakes were OK at the service a few weeks ago and I can't think of much else (other than remembering the helmet and a large flask of something hot).
How harsh is Dono on tyres? Mine are 8k miles old - I assume that unless I'm a complete hooligan I shouldn't take off too much tread?
Oh, one last thing (RobMac?) - is there anyone there who'll be doing an instructor type thing ie sit in the passenger seat for the first few laps to help me get up to speed as I found it really helpful on the P1 day.

My advice is get some Part Worn tyres QUICK!!!! Because Donington will complete kill your left side tyres until they are balder than slicks and I kid you not. Dono is one of the most hard wearing tracks for tyres and 80% of turns are left handers.
Bring some spare oil, track Insurance is handy and make sure your with someone like the AA or RAC incase something does go wrong. Check your brakes as the Back Straight and coming into Redgate will hurt those poor brakes BIG Time!
See you there

John that's exactly what I thought
Right right left *big gulp* right left right right *ducks under bridge* right *quick* left
if I remember correctly..
but then it's all 4th gear other than two corners *as someone once explained to me*

most are right handers harj!! LOL
If its wet you will hardly touch your tyres, if its dry i suggest you get some part worns installed by tyres northampton, mark and the guys are there, give them a call prior to sat so they come prepaired if thats your plan.
New tyres on track are far more prone to being destroyed than part worns.

Does Harj drive in the opposite direction to the rest of us?

Thanks for all the advice, though unfortunately Saturday has now been cancelled
I'm hoping to carry over the track day insurance until the rescheduled date. Hadn't thought about bringing spare oil - thanks Harj.
OK then, how much will a set of part worns set me back? Will the Tyres Northampton guys put them on and then replace the originals for me at the end of the day?
One other thing I meant to ask - how many laps am I likely to be able to do before the brakes start fading enough to get me worried?
Its an RB5 WR PPP with standard brakes...
