Default What price for engine or rebuild

hi all i`m new to subarus i have a m reg wagon but may also be able to get hold of a Subaru Impreza STI redtop V-limited 97 p reg the engine has started to knock i am getting it cheep enough i think so would look at rebuild or new engine, just wanted to know the best option new recon engine or rebuild and what price area would i bee looking at i would have around 2k to spend is that enough or not.

you can get an engine rebuilt for that,a brand new short motor is around 1200 then you could sell the knocking engine for a bit,thats what i'd do (and am doing)

Rebuild it yourself for a shade over £500

The pleasure in knowing it's done right is worth that alone ... it's a very simple engine.

Funny you said that because i have been thinking this for a while i`m not bad with a spanner and have a garage but just not that sure etc..

only for "skill mechanics " I think as it a bugger to work on !

Most rebuilders charge around £1800 mate i would recomend David At API Engines

ditto steve on this one. im gonna get in touch with david about rebuilding my gearbox in the new year.

My brother blew his Type R at last years rally GB The rebuild went over budget 5K but i must say its all singing and dancing will hold a good 500 bhp
The work was done by Chy Wright at Pennine subaru

go for the 2.5 you can buy them already built for 2k mark and will b able to acheive bigger bhp with more reliablity u will need to buy afew other bits but the bits u dont need off ur old engine u can sell to help fund everything, thats what im doing but having forgd rods pistond race bearings

the scoob i got last weekend is knocking , but has forged pistons already , roughly what bits will i need to do a rebuild myself ?
